When she married the French Prez back in 2008 she embarked on a lifestyle of whizzling round the globe, top to toe in Christian Dior, meeting foreign dignitaries and pouting seductively at photocalls.

Is it a coincidence that, since that time, political wives seem to have glammed up and become far more au fait with the world of fashwan? We don’t know but let’s look at the evidence. Here she is with Sarah Brown, well known for her championing of up and coming British designers like Erdem and Osman Yousefzada.

Now here she is with the gorgeous, Michelle Obama who is seemingly fashion forward without seeming vain or superficial. Tough competition indeed.

Next up, the bedazzling Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser of the Qatari Royal family. Carla can hold her own against this magnificent turban and statesman like posture, but...will her fashion crown be about to slip?
