We do love a delicious morsel of fashion gossip here at Grazia Daily, so upon hearing that Diane Kruger has been spilling the beans on close chum Lagerfeld, we were itching to hear the full deets, naturally. And after having a gander at the interview in the new issue of Allure, how happy we are to see Karl offering his pennies worth too.
Because although the delectable Diane has long talked of the man she describes as her fashion father (hm, rubbing it in much?) and we’ve seen her playing boules at his side in St Trop, what a treat it is to hear the origins of their bond from the Kaiser himself: "I met Diane on a shoot I was doing for Elle in the '90s, with ten other girls. Diane was stunning, and the most interesting girl. The others I forgot instantly. One, she can make any clothing, no matter how wild, look right. That alchemy is very hard to explain. And two, she speaks perfect English, French, and German. There is no actress in the world who can handle so perfectly three languages with no accent." Blimey, is there no end to Kruger’s sheer fabulousness?!
We think not – because not only is she part of the Chanel crew, she’s also willing to take a risk in the name of fashion, as the actress recalls: "Two years ago, I wore an haute couture gown to the Venice Film Festival, and it had a full-on corset. It was gorgeous, but it was a runway piece and it hadn't been made for life, the bodice didn't have one of those openings at the bottom. I nearly fainted because it was so tight, and I had to go to the bathroom so badly, but it would have taken an hour to get out of that dress. But! It was soooo gorgeous!" Grazia’s Charlie Miller remembers being mightily impressed with the very same Christian Dior dress that, at the time, Diane described as a “tight little number”. Ah yes, a girl after our own hearts - we always knew Karl had good taste...
But their adorable (verging on sickening) love-in of German gloriousness doesn’t end there, oh no! Because the 33-year-old beauty brings us another ditty about The Golden Camera Awards when the designer presented her with an award earlier this year: "Karl never goes out to give awards, but he came out for me," Kruger says. "He gets very flustered speaking on TV, and he just goes on and on. And in the course of presenting me with this, he said, on live television, that we were neighbours -- and then gave our addresses. I'm backstage, like, Oh, my God! Thanks, Karl! For making it easy for the crazy people!"
Crazy people or not, living next door to King Karl is surely every girl’s dream, right? Oh, just think of what she must see when peeping over the garden fence... [Allure]
