News just in from WWD! Hot on the heels of yesterday’s rumour that Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti is being mooted for the top job at Thierry Mugler comes the super exciting fashion gossip that Rachel Zoe, she of the iconic retro-glam aesthetic, is set to launch her own line, comprising “contemporary accessories, shoes and apparel with the possibility of home down the line”. The line will be called The Rachel Zoe Collection and will launch for Fall 2011.
Zoe is, of course, most famous for being the stylist who spearheaded the iconic mid-noughties look of oversized sunglasses, masses of jewellery and long dresses which completely transformed Nicole Richie from being Paris Hilton’s mate into a card carrying style icon.
Back in 2007-ish it seemed like Zoe was on track to be the most powerful stylist, like, ever, though recently it feels as if she’s been a little less high profile. These days she still styles A-listers like Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson and Demi Moore, but whilst the names on her client list are still pretty stellar, none of her clients seem to possess the drool-making quality that the likes of Ritchie had a few years ago.
In addition, Zoe has moved from being a celebrity stylist to a celebrity in her own right, partly due to her insatiable drive to move from one project to the next - “I want to have an entire lifestyle brand. Everything. No limits. No limits! I hate limits. Give me a limit, I’m going to break it.” Eep. She also fully admits that she’s a perfectionist, saying in today's WWD interview “Tom Ford said to me the first time I ever met him – we kind of bonded over the fact that we are Virgos, and it was never enough, and perfectionism and all of that.”
Zoe’s brand already includes a jewellery line for QVC as well as an affordable line of very, erm, affordable looking faux-fur vests and coats for the TV shopping channel. It also includes books, her website rachelzoe.com and The Rachel Zoe Project, the über camp reality show (which Grazia Daily hearts, not least for her lovely assistant Brad Goreski and brilliant sound bites including the reportedly trademarked ‘bananas’).
So, what should we expect from The Rachel Zoe Collection? Well, obviously tons and tons of Seventies disco glamour, non? Zoe says “I’ll definitely do faux furs and incredible leather jackets and trousers” (yay!) She also says that “you will definitely see me in the clothes. Like, you will absolutely see me in my trademark pieces”, which is a pretty solid seal of approval for the collection.
