What could be better than a brand-spanking-new shopping nirvana opening in East London in time for the Olympics? Why, a party to celebrate it, of course! Last night 150 VIP guests braved the June chill to celebrate the launch of Westfield Stratford City’s Studio East project, which supports emerging local creative talent. We were, of course, on the guest list along with Henry Holland, Roksanda Illincic, Pam Hogg, Roland Mouret, and other top names from the worlds of fashion, art and design. While a pianist tickled the ivories, we enjoyed one too many Patron Tequila cocktails for a Monday night, and tried not to appear too greedy whilst tucking into the communal feast created by Bistrotheque’s Tom Collins.
The highlight of the night had to be when the lovely up-and-coming designer Julian J Smith (who we were seated next to) won the coveted Studio East Fashion Award. The award was judged by Roland Mouret and Times Fashion Editor Lisa Armstrong, and the prize includes a commission to create the uniform for the Westfield Stratford East staff… Maybe he could make a Grazia uniform too while he’s at it?
