Apparently, Marc Jacobs’ ex boyfriend Jason Preston is said to be writing an explosive tell-all book on the designer. This morning we asked ourselves - how do we feel about this news story? Torn in two directions if we’re honest.
On the one hand, we’re huge Marc fans and kiss and tell is quite, well quite low isn’t it? Plus,
On the other hand, WE LOVE reading fashion biopics. Very recently an entire weekend’s plans were cancelled in order to plough through a borrowed copy of the Halston biog by Steven Gaines, who also co-authored Calvin Klein Obsession, which we demolished err, obsessively AND which was nearly BANNED from publication by Calvin himself! The Vivienne Westwood (authorised) story by Jane Mulvagh took us a little longer but is still imprinted on our minds now. So assuming that the book does go to press and is even halfway decent, then yes, of course we would rush and buy it, (along with plentiful supplies of tea and biscuits) then batten down the hatches and stay in to read it.
Such a tough one to call. Perhaps we’ll take our cue from the designer himself. His life is quite an open book anyway. Time spent in rehab has been well publicised, while Jacobs hardly lives a reclusive lifestyle, frequently attending high profile events and giving quite candid interviews to promote both his two eponymous fashion lines as well as Louis Vuitton of which he is creative director. We guess his stance towards a muck-raking tome would be to simply rise above it, in the manner of Miuccia Prada. A journalist, rather than an ex partner did the same to her at the end of 2009.
