YESSS! Mulberry To Launch High Street Collection!

Mulberry's SS10 collection

Exciting news from WWD this morning - Mulberry is launching a high street diffusion collection! The chosen store is US retailer Target, which is well known for its high end designer collaborations; recent hookups have included Zac Posen, Rodarte and Anna Sui, often with stunning results (we're still kicking ourselves for failing to get one of those Rodarte sequinned skeleton print tunics sent over by any of our friends in NYC).

High street/designer collections can be a mixed bag. For every Viktor and Rolf at H&M or +J at Uniqlo, there's also a few that are so terrible you can't believe the designer could bear to give them the final sign off (or indeed, even had anything to do with them).

Leather accessories are notoriously difficult, as they are all about the quality of the fabric and the finish - Mulberry's bags are carefully crafted by a team of artisans in England after all. But the hip Brit label has actually created a high street design once before - for Gap's RED charity capsule collection a couple of years ago, when it released a limited-edition, scarlet sweatshirting version of the classic Roxanne style for £95. And it was BRlLLlANT!

So let's assume this collection is going to be great. But will the UK miss out? Hopefully not - this summer, when Target also teamed up with Liberty to produce fashion and homewares in the shop's gorgeous signature floral prints, the London store created a pop up boutique so that its Brit customers could buy the bargain-priced pieces.

There's no news yet on whether Mulberry will be doing the same, but don't worry, we're going to start nagging our friends at Mulberry right NOW... [wwd]
