Keeping Up With Kylie

09 June 2010

A delightful pair of invites landed on my door earlier this week, so even though I could hardly see three feet in front of me thanks to the pelting June rain, I dusted off my mac and pedalled to Regent Street, where there was a champagne soiree being hosted by a certain whizz of Oz.

We headed to the Tous jewellery store at the top of Regent Street, which was glistening with shiny jewellery and shiny people. Tess Daly caught my eye, resplendent in a white Antik Batik dress with those Lanvin ankle chain pumps. “I‘d never take them off it was down to me,” she told me, “they’re so comfy I’d do the gardening in them!”

I scouted out the glamorous Mrs Rosa Tous, founder of the Tous brand, and in broken Spanglish she told me why Kylie was the face of the Tous brand. “She is a hard working woman, but she always has a sense of fun. Sweet and still sexy, she appeals to everyone.”

And doesn’t she just. I got just a little bit excited when she tinkled in through the door, goddess-like in a candy-pink Bodyamr gown. Striking a perfect pose between Mrs Tous and her daughter she was positively effervescent. I asked her why she chose Bodyamr for her tour. “The cut is incredible. I can move any way I want to and it still looks great – I absolutely love it.”

After we got over the Kylie shock introduction we replenished with a spoonful of courgette and buffalo mozzarella, before turning to chat to Julien Macdonald. He was loving my new summer party staple, a Sea NY leopard print jumpsuit picked up from the girls at Oxygen boutique only a few days ago. I asked where he got shoes from, and he confided that everything – from his trendy Shoreditch haircut to his pointy suede boots – was sourced within five minutes of his home in Notting Hill. Ah the joys of living on the Portobello Road.

Before heading off we caught up with Amy Molyneux from PPQ who was twirling around her new Tous bears on a necklace. “ These three babies are coming to the Groucho with me,” she thrilled, and sparkled off into the evening. We had a little turn on the dancefloor where Mat Horne was dj’ing before hopping on the bikes to get to the next stop of the evening.

We whizzed around to the opening of natural skincare label REN’s summer pop up store. The calming scent of rosebud and grapefruit filled the air as I was handed a lychee martini, complete with floating orchid. Tolula Adayemi had the paps in a frenzy at the sight of her endless legs in a pair of pale green high waisted shorts. “My absolute favourite from REN is the Moroccan rose body oil,” she told me, “It leaves my skin amazingly soft.”

REN founder Rob Calcraft told me that all this partying was probably playing havoc on my skin – and all I needed was his peel mask to slough the hungover skin cells off. And when I peeked in the goodie bag – hey presto! There it was.

Let’s hope it works its magic tomorrow…
