We've barely recovered from the red carpet fashion fantasy that was this year's Costume Institute ball, when news reaches us that the theme for next year's ball has ALREADY been decided.

Aside from perennial Met Ball host Anna Wintour, it turns out there is a shadowy top secret elite committee (hiding behind the seemingly innocuous identity of the Friends of the Costume Institute) who help decide the theme of the museum's benefit gala, up to a year in advance.

We know this because, WWD has reported that the aforementioned 'Friends' gathered in Los Angeles last week for its annual swanky dinner to honour Met curator Andrew Bolton, surrounded by some fabulous fashion types - the Rodarte sisters, Monique L'huillier, Decades vintage store owner Cameron Silver etc etc. Anyway, it was here that Harold Koda, curator-in-charge of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, couldn't resist offering up this baffling, yet tantalising riddle as a clue to the Met Ball 2011:  “It involves a lot of drunk Brits. You’ll want to wear something that you can lift your arms in, maybe show some cleavage.”

Erm, right. Previous themes for the glittering gala have included Anglomania, Superheroes and the Model as Muse.

Think you can crack Koda's Met Ball code and work out the theme of next year's gala?
