Wow. So last night it was the world premiere of the Sex And The City 2 movie, and as you can imagine, it pretty much brought New York to a standstill, with fans lining the streets to catch a glimpse of everyone arriving at NYC's famous Radio City Music Hall. It was Sex and the City mania in full effect with hundreds of fans, all dressed up with major heels, or wearing Team Aiden or Team Big T shirts, or putting up notices in the windows of their offices to catch the attention of the shows starts (and, see below, it certainly worked with Chris Noth!)
You can watch footage of the premiere's arrivals below, with all the stars of the movie, and the VIP guests. Check back on the site later for our round up of the Best Dressed on the red carpet...
And here's what the girls all had to say..
Sarah Jessica Parker talks about wearing "Valentino ! The man, the designer, himself [Valentino Garavani] is here, but this is by the new designers of the couture collection [Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli]". Asked how SATC had helped her wardrobe and dress sense, she admitted "you can dream a little bigger - you can wear or borrow it or even try it on. I’m still not a real big shopper. I don’t have that many clothes in my closet. I have the same things I had in high school." Getting the movie's wardrobe together involved "a huge long period of prep. [we] started talking about wardrobe in June 2009, with the first fitting in the latter part of June.. so it’s a really long process. We just keep pulling [samples in] as there were more [fashion] shows and more designers". And as excutive producer "I’m involved in every single part of it.. negotiating contracts, the artwork, getting teams on sets.. it’s the big stuff and it’s the little stuff. It’s the only way I know how to be involved any more.” She describes the film as having the “big theme of tradition; why we run toward it and why we run away, and how we redefine it”. And she thinks SATC has inspired women to getting closer to each other "sometimes when I’m driving around New York.. I see a group of four women.. I see it more now. Women have cultivated their relationships in maybe an aspirational way…”
Kim Cattrall, was marvelling at the huge fan turn out at the event "it started as a half hour show on HBO and it's become a phenonemon..." She thinks that SATC's legacy is that "there's a voice now for women, the challenges of being a woman in the world today, we do it with intelligence and humour....and do it in a way that makes people think and entertains them.. we need to laugh at ourselves. This show celebrates women, but also life.."
Cynthia Nixon said of the screaming fans “it’s a beautiful beautiful sight.”
Asked if the fab four are as good friends on screen as off, Kristin Davis replied “pretty much.” Cynthia says SATC “gives women a nice range of personalities to choose from… and you’re a different character at different times in your life”
But which were their favourite outfits in the movie? Kristin chose one of Miranda’s(!) - “there is one Roland Mouret dress that I want!” And Cynthia chooses Charlotte’s cupcake-baking outfit.. “you looked so cute!”
And the SATC men were interviewed too..
Appropriately, Chris Noth describes Big and Carrie’s marriage as “like a new pair of shoes, that you’ve got to learn to walk in for a while…”
The film's director Michael Patrick King says “I wanted it to be a big Hollywood extravaganza but with a heart..It’s meaningful but its still fun.. laughter and tears wrapped up together.”
Darren Star the film's executive producer, says the film is “a lot of fun it’s great escapist entertainment.. watching these girls” He said the show was inspired by "four women with four different points of view so that they could all get together and talk and laugh and argue”
And will there be SATC3? King says “I hope so. I mean, if this means anything [gestures at the mass of fans].. it’s a good sign." Certainly is!
