You heard it here first! In conclusive proof that Grazia Daily is the first place to bring you your fashion fix, WWD are only now reporting that Giles Deacon has been confirmed as the new creative director of Ungaro; which is news Grazia Daily brought you a whole month ago.
Giles has announced he'll be showing his first collection for the label in October and will probably stay away from the catwalk for the first two seasons, telling WWD that "I kind of want to get myself into the spirit of the house."
As for what we can expect from Giles for Ungaro, Mr Deacon has revealed a few snippets about what he hopes to bring to the house. He says "I obviously don’t want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of colour, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design I’m going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman."
Grazia Daily totally thinks that Giles could really bring something amazing to Ungaro, following a few seasons of mixed fortunes after its purchase by Asim Abdullah in 2005, and which culminated in the appointment of Lindsay Lohan as Artistic Director and the departure of Estrella Archs earlier this year. On the subject of the pressure of working at Ungaro, Giles says that "I think as soon as you start worrying and thinking about that too much, you’re not concentrating on doing good work, which is the most important thing". Here here Giles! We for one cannot WAIT until October.
