As far as boat bashes go, Giorgio Armani can always be counted on to throw a soiree that draws the most exquisitely attired attendees (shh, don't tell Cavalli!). So today we’re focusing our style spotlight on the cocktail party that the designer hosted yesterday on his yacht in Cannes... Happy dress drooling!
The visual feast begins with English Rose personified. So far this year, Emily Blunt has shunned the Cannes red carpet so we're very happy to see her effervescent style making an appearance last night and of course, she looks terribly refined in this Dior gown - but essentially it's a floaty wedding dress, no? Oh what the heck, call us fickle but there’s no denying her divine-ness, so we’re giving the Blunty a thumbs up! Are you?
Never one to play it safe, Julia Restoin Roitfeld brought our most beloved look of the evening thanks to this marvellous mini dress full of designer details, confirming our opinion that she’s the coolest gal on the fashion block. Her covetable frock is ingenious and entirely modern with it’s fabulous printed silk draping, clashing prints, leather applique AND cute cap sleeves. Overall, A.MAZE.ING! Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the daughter of a living fashion legend.
UPDATE! Our fashion spies tell us this is the wonderful creation of Spanish-born designer Emilio de la Morena (who we LOVE!) and is straight from his incredible AW10 collection. Look out for more of his sexy edgy silhouettes coming to a red carpet near you soon!
Speaking of which, here’s Maman Roitfeld looking super sleek. Like all faithful fashionistas, fail-safe head to toe black is always on the menu and Carine styled up her Balmain AW10 LBD with a killer pair of aggressive Azzedine Alaia lace-ups and that trademark disheveled-but-not-messy hair. Fabuloso!
Meanwhile, actress Elizabeth Banks choose a funky Giorgio Armani SS10 frock of cobalt blue embellished with glistening crystals that’s just perfect for sipping a few cocktails on Armani’s luxury deck. Aside from her dress, the minimal jewelry, those simple metallic sandals and matching clutch are all spot on.
Surprise attendee, Natalie Imbruglia played up to the nautical theme with a palette of white and blue and looked like quite the French fancy, although we admit to being a tad disappointed with this one. Hitch up the baggy hemline on that Emporio Armani skirt, swap the nude heels, and then we’re talking.
As for Naomi Watts, she’s not let us down for her turn at Cannes and we’re glad to report that she continued her glam run with this very appropriate evening ensemble of a sparkling shift dress worn under a simple collarless cropped jacket. The jury’s still out on those satin shoes though...
Rather than going for a major gown or sexy mini, the lithesome Karolina Kurkova went androgynous in her chic get-up but added the compulsory sheen and sparkle courtesy of her sequinned pinstripe jacket. What a winner!
