Last night’s Best Dressed: from Cannes to Glee to SJP...

By now, we're all aware that Cannes is in full swing so of course, Best Dressed is back to take you to the Palm-lined red carpet where Gemma Arterton brought some fresh blood to the proceedings and looked like a Grecian goddess in her Elie Saab SS10 gown, while Naomi Watts was the personification of pared-down chic courtesy of her RM by Roland Mouret jersey dress, which is quite a turn around after the oh-so-pretty moment we swooned over yesterday. But which approach do you prefer?

It looks like super sleek was the order of the day with Naomi Campbell and Kate Beckinsale back before the paps and both sporting shimmering floor-sweepers. Is Naomi reminding anyone else of a bejewelled mermaid in this beautiful Roberto Cavalli halter gown of gold paillettes? La Becks followed suit and dazzled the crowd in a flashy Balmain AW10 dress that showcased one perfectly toned thigh. Ain’t it fab to see her stepping away from pretty princess territory with an edgier vibe? Yes, much better.

But wait, the princess is back. Hopping over to Chopard’s 150th Anniversary Party, Kate dropped the fierce sharp shoulders for some more of her favourite floaty romance, but we’ll let her off considering she looks divinely elegant enrobed in her Brit-championing Temperley London dress, especially in comparison to Eva Herzigova and Lindsay Lohan in Alberta Ferretti who both went super short in skimpy minidresses. Oh la la!

But hurrah for Cotillard! You can always count on the eternally chic Frenchy to pull it out the bag and last night, she didn’t disappoint. Although Marion’s avoided the Cannes red carpet so far, she made a show stopping entrance for a spot of partying, Chopard style. The strapless Lefranc Ferrant jumpsuit of sparkling sequins is ultra glam yet strikingly individual, with the jazziness heightened by that awesome twisted bouffant (watch your back La Roux!). And she even manages to match the floor she stands upon, what a result!

Away from the waterfront drama of Cannes, the fashion parade rolls on and we couldn’t let this little beauty go unnoticed. Because here’s our favourite Gleek, Lea Michele looking picture perfect at the FOX UpFront party in New York. She certainly scrubs up nicely, helped in part by this resplendent Erdem number from the AW10 collection, already sported by Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow (what fine company she's in). We love that she’s made it event - and long legged - appropriate by hacking off the floor-length hemline as shown on the catwalk, while that tremendous beehive a-top her head, accented by bold burgundy lips keeps it super sophisticated. The final delight for your fashion eyes comes from SJP, who was the epitome of spring chic in a fancy schmancy ensemble from Elie Saab’s feminine SS10 collection. The delicate lace cardigan and draped satin skirt are spot-on seasonal trends and we’re loving the colour pop of hot pink for a youthful touch. What a lovely head of lightened locks too. It’s certainly whetted our appetite for the SATC press tour – Bring. It. On.
