While we were lounging on the sofa watching Supernanny USA while eating cheese sticks, Hollywood’s superstars were squeezing into their finest to deliver the level of glamour to which we've become accustomed. And there’s no way their triumphs and tribulations could escape our style spotlight, so let’s hop to it!
First and foremost, is Naomi Watts not a delight? This is the very dress we dream of seeing on a Monday morning, and of course the dress our wardrobe pines for – mainly because it’s from Frida Giannini’s brand spanking new couture collection. Salma Hayek debuted the Gucci Première line last week and here’s more proof of its stunning credentials. The pale pink shade is super romantic and the ribbon-esque details embellished with silver sequins add some subtle glitz. Plus those red lips, the glossy locks… all so spectacular, and the perfect explanation for why she's lined up to play Marilyn. Talk about star WATTage *snigger*
Step forward the second Naomi of the night (although it must be noted this Naomi is second to none, obvs). The good news is she’s wearing Givenchy couture by Riccardo Tisci and she looks stunningly hot. The not so good news is she has a new bob, which is throwing us off a tad. What are your thoughts?
Now this, we love. Exhibiting another Gucci Première creation, Camilla Belle made her entrance onto the Cannes red carpet swathed in blue and wrapped in shimmering embroidery. La belle femme indeed! But does the poofy bouffant obscure the goodness? You tell us.
So K.Becks is back, and lo and behold she’s cracked out another sparkler, and guess what? Yep, it’s Gucci Première. Ordinarily, we’d praise such a glittering display of glamour but we’re blinded by Beckinsale’s blandness. Don’t get us wrong, this outfit is certainly noteworthy and sure, she looks sleek and sophisticated but we’re bored... Next!
Oh yes, thank you Eva Herzigova. Thank you Dolce & Gabbana. You've done marvellously.
Let’s ahead over to the Gucci party honoring Martin Scorsese where we have another medley of gowns for you to marvel at...
Frida Giannini hosted the event for the Cannes crew and here she is alongside La Lopez. We know you can do better than this, J-Lo. The last time you featured on the list of Best Dressers, you looked simply resplendent in Lanvin. So what happened? We’d be ok with such an enormously ruffled shoulder on the Gucci frock if it wasn’t for the sack-like silhouette beneath it. We sigh for you.
Meanwhile, Camilla Belle, Naomi Watts and Salma Hayek were also working Gucci numbers (we have a hunch the Italian powerhouse is conquering the Cannes red carpet this year). All three ladies added more immaculate ensembles to their already impressive bodies of work by turning to lashings of sparkle. Three cheers all round!
Oh la la! Karolina Kurkova sure isn't shy about flashing the lady-parts, and why should she be when she has a body to make us mere mortals weep? So basically this Chanel Pre-Fall creation boils down to a lot of sheer chiffon wrapped around her killer curves. Fabulous! Dasha Zhukova on the other hand looked positively angelic in a Fendi SS10 silk beauty complete with elegant lace panels. The top knot almost ruins it… Almost.
As for Naomi Campbell, well this is a lotta crazy, which is not something we thought we’d say when it comes to Valentino couture + superduper model, but here we are. And we thought those bangs were befuddling! Admittedly, it’s an impressive mess of sequins and floral leggings, and as if that wasn’t enough, why not throw on a shawl of ostrich feathers? (perhaps taking it off could fix this? Nah, probably not...) Perhaps Naomi was going for funky and fun, or maybe she decided to raid Courtney Love’s wardrobe… We have no answers. Only many, many questions.
