“I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly...” - words we imagined Beyoncé singing when news reached us that Victoria Beckham is set to design her stage gear. But what’s this? Apparently, it was the diva herself who approached Vicky B after falling in love with her latest clothing collection. Well, we’re rather intrigued at the thought of such an unlikely pairing. The ladies are pretty much chalk and cheese in terms of fashion, no? Because when you think performing-Beyoncé, images of gold spandex and space-age basques à la Thierry Mugler spring to mind (gosh, that Sasha Fierce knows how to booty shake in style). Meanwhile, Posh has become renowned for her Jackie O-like outfits and her signature sleek sheaths that best suit a certain type of (whippet thin) woman. Can bootilicious Beyonce pull them off? According to VB, ‘I just want to make women feel good and beautiful. It’s been a huge compliment that ladies have enjoyed wearing my dresses and they look great. It just goes to show they can flatter women of all different shapes and sizes, all different heights, and that’s what it’s about.’ We take that as a yes, then.
So if the rumours are true, how will VB transform the warrior woman into an elegant lady? Our bets are on a lot of corseting, as well as a touch of draping for many a floor-sweeping gown, no doubt several pairs of towering heels will be involved, and perhaps a few oversized sunnies... Or how about David’s face printed on a ball gown à la Dolce & Gabbana [above]? What, who's getting carried away? Whatever the result, we have absolute faith in Ms Beckham - don’t forget she was once a pop superstar, too. Plus, her designs will make a refreshing change from all the Gaga-a-likes and those risqué designs Bey wore when Mugler was creative director on her last tour... So with Beyoncé as a bestie and a whole host of celebrity fans, including Gwyneth Paltrow and SJP, it’s only a matter of time before VB's succeeded in her quest for world domination. One thing’s for sure, when the tour rolls into town, Team Grazia will be front row and centre. [Mirror]
