With Gwyn and Scarlett taking a break from their promotional duties (boo), Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba stepped in to provide us with a double dose of gorgeous glamour at the premiere of their new film, 'The Killer Inside Me' as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. Here's what they wore...
We’re giving Kate full marks for arriving in a marvellous aztec Louis Vuitton poncho – isn’t it grand to see her looking more edgy yet so sophisticated? Underneath it was this little corker for the grand red carpet enterance:
First things first, we object strongly to strange Darth Vader-esque tubing but the leather detailing on K.Hud's wool LBD (also Louis Vuitton) was made less severe with a flirty flippy skirt and those retro waves. But it wasn’t only the hair do reminding us of Ms Monroe when a cheeky gust of wind lifted Kate's dress to reveal some shapely pins. Thank goodness her castmate was on hand to avoid any pant-flashing embarrassment. Phewf!
In fact, the Alba was Kate’s perfect counterpart in more ways than one. Ditching her usual sexy, sleek look and embracing a romantic boho side, it seems Jessica has pickpocketed Nicole Richie’s style and gone all sweetly dreamy on us. Yay! Indeed, she looks like the perfect hippie angel in this sheer maxi dress from Chloe's SS10 collection, teamed with a neck-full of metal, strappy sandals by Marni and an abundance of hair extensions that’d make Chezza proud. Lovely.
Also going for an ethereal edge was Florence Welch who rocked this antique lace dress for the Evening At Sanderson event in London last night. We love the quirky double length created by a saucy white slip beneath the lace overlay, which also prevents the gown from looking like Grandma's net curtains. Plus, we're very impressed to see someone's been taking tips from this week’s Grazia by wisely adding a pair of on-trend grey booties to create a contrast and bring an up-to-date addition. Yep, Flo’s done it once again with her feminine bohemian perfection, and we love.
Considering Grazia Daily’s impartial to a touch of flamboyance to spice things up, we were enthused to see Paloma Faith arriving at the Samsung 3D Television party in a characteristically outlandish outfit. The songstress looked splendid in a jumpsuit of shimmering Big Bird yellow topped off by a glittering leopard print hat, red heels and questionable black socks [insert your own banana-meets-tellytubby jokes here]. Could she be making a political statement and flying the flag for the Nick Clegg brigade, we wonder?
After knocking our socks off with her hippy hippo dresses and bold Laura Mackness get-ups, more extravagant swagger came courtesy of Marina Diamandis, who brought a surreal touch to the London streets yesterday. Who knew the glamourous peacock look could work so well? We’re seeing multi-coloured feathers, sparkling sequins, chic harems and, er, green leopard print socks. Goodness, that Gaga has a lot to answer for.
Meanwhile, Charlize Theron was back on fine form, flaunting her feminine wiles when hosting the Africa Outreach Project Dinner in Hollywood. Her Christian Dior Pre-Fall frock brings an interesting spin to the spring-like florals already doing the rounds thanks to its black print and lace detailing, and yet we’re feeling sadly un-wowed. Perhaps the addition of a few bouncy curls à la Hudson would’ve helped?
So what of Charlize’s fellow attendee Nicole Richie? Someone ought to tell her that her gown’s got stuck betwixt her shins. Oh it’s meant to be like that? Well that is worrying. A slinky dress turning into satin drapes that inexplicably transform into billowing harems is majorly befuddling. Yes, it is from Dior's AW09 collection, and from the knees up, it is charming (ignoring the protruding bra situation), plus of course we’re happy Nic’s finally stepped away from the boho maxis, but it’s way too sultry genie crossed with MC Hammer for our liking. Agreed?
