No, not Lady Gaga (surely she must be furious to have been beaten to next season's craziest footwear), no, not Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon (who may or may not be rocking the just-released Choo trainers even as you read this...)...no, the first A-lister to grab the Jimmy Choo "Zap" shoes with the illuminated heels is... Katy Perry. The singer appeared in the uh, flashy shoes at the after-party for on the red carpet at the 27th Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards.
The Zaps, were designed for Rodarte's Autumn Winter 2010 show, and debuted on the catwalk in February. Despite the £1625 price tag, the shoes are in hot demand and currently have an enooormous waiting list. But Perry was so desperate to appear in the Zaps that she squeezed her feet into the sample size, telling fellow guests Kid Rock and Adrian Grenier "these shoes are two sizes too small, but God, it's worth it."
Like Lady Gaga, Perry is known for her whacky dress sense, most recently appearing at Coachella in a flurorescent green and flesh coloured camouflage print dress, accessorised with a teddybear paper fan. The singer was interviewed for the current issue of Rolling Stone magazine, and when asked about fellow fashion show-off Lady Gaga, she said, “there’s no competing with Lady GaGa. She’ll just ***ing run you over. She eats, breathes and sh*ts that stuff".
Seems Perry can hold her own after all...
