If, like us, you spent the weekend searching for your perfect shades then you will appreciate that as dream jobs go, this is pretty good... Imagine being appointed Style Director for Sunglass Hut. That’s what has just happened to actress and style icon Rachel Bilson.
The former OC star, whose much-monitored, laid-back stylings are often topped off with a pair of Raybans, told WWD she was “very flattered” to be approached; “I can’t say what makes me a good style adviser for them, but I am a huge sunglasses addict. I don’t leave the house without [a pair].”
Sunglass Hut is owned by Luxottica, the company behind pretty much every sunglasses name you can think of, from top designer labels like YSL and Armani, to big brands like Rayban and Oliver Peoples. The Hut’s CEO Fabio Angelantonio said of Bilson’s appointment; “we wanted a symbol of our philosophy, somebody who’s familiar and relevant to our target [consumer], but at the same time was herself sunglasses obsessed.”
Bilson will blog for the brand’s website, as well as conducting podcast interviews with ‘key industry figures’, starting with US designer Tory Burch.
“I love talking about fashion, so I can’t wait to talk to professionals who share the same passion,” said the actress, who already has Karl Lagerfeld at the top of her interview wishlist; “he’s an icon and he wears sunglasses at all times.”
This Thursday, a huge new Sunglass Hut flagship store will open on London’s Oxford Street, the day after the opening of the brand’s New York flagship store. [WWD]
