Lara Stone Admits Past Issues with Alcohol

21 April 2010

Lara Stone seems to be the girl who has it all, the dream job, the awesome fiancé, the killer face and bod.
But it seems the supermodel’s superfabulous lifestyle has caused her problems in the past, and not so long ago she was forced to take control of her increasingly rock n roll party habits, and check herself into rehab.
Speaking about her problems on the record for the first time to Interview magazine the model admitted; "the drinking was getting way out of control. I just didn't recognise myself any more. I didn't know what I was doing or where I was.”
She also told the magazine that her drinking wasn’t just restricted to nights out, “I always had to have some drinks with me in my bag. Just waking up shaking and then having Bloody Marys on your own, first thing in the morning”, both of which (drinking alone and concealing alcohol) are known to be red flags for serious alcohol addiction problems.
Fortunately, just over a year ago, Stone had the good sense to realise she needed professional help, “I started to feel really pathetic about it. So I was like, 'I can't live like this.' It was just this really awful feeling of becoming a totally different person and not being able to control it at all. Then I tried to not drink, but that didn't work. So I figured I should just go to rehab."
Lara has now been sober for ten months – a great achievement, especially when she still works in an industry known for its hard partying and lavish provision of alcohol at any event, regardless of the time of day.  Possibly it’s unrelated, but can it really be a coincidence that the model is now No 1 on the ad campaign circuit?
And it sounds like some of Stone’s less charming habits will not be missed, "I used to love slapping people in the face when I was drunk. I thought it was really funny, so I did pick fights with doormen and bouncers. Ex boyfriends. But nobody ever punched me back."
Good job she never tried in on Naomi Campbell, though, eh?
