The Best Dressed List: more coaching from Coachella

20 April 2010

When the world is covered in Volcanic ash, why not take advantage of the flight freeze by camping out in the Indio desert and putting your indie gear to good use? This slew of celebs did just that, keeping cool and giving the papz a field day in an array of punky threads. And honestly, we couldn’t resist bringing you another round-up of festie fashion before the Best Dressed list is saturated with Hunter wellies and Barbours from a sludgy Glasto etc. So just to make you a tad more miffed at being stuck in a stuffy office, have a browse at what these starlets wore on the final day at Coachella...

The performing princesses

We begin with the reminder that this is actually a music festival, not solely the chance to parade around the beer tent in outlandish outfits. Indeed, Grazia’s musical muse, Florence Welch was hard at work on stage, showcasing that sartorial abandon that the fashion elite (including Chace Crawford!) are swooning over. Like a uber-leggy Kylie meets an ethereal white witch, Flo looked resplendent in a pair of gold hot pants under billowing peach chiffon as she cavorted about barefoot. Similarly, actress and Katy-Perry-alike Zooey Deschanel was grabbing attention for her sound as well as her style-setting when she performed with her band She & Him in a signature cute-as-pie frock accessorised with a tambourine. Oh so rock and roll.

The lady-like ladies

Off duty, Florence chose a frock reminiscent of the 40’s housewives we spotted yesterday but when co-ordinated with that flame red hair and fair skin, she looks damn cool. Anne Hathaway ditched the fringing and also opted for a vintage-inspired knee-grazing number, clinched at the waist with a thin tan belt. See girls, festival dressing does not equal compulsory flash-fleshing (we’re talking to you Geldofs). Plus, Anne’s hat is at the height of fashion while also preventing heatstroke...clever.

The all-blues

Tiny denim cut-offs are always a festival fave and understandably so when temperatures are upwards of 95 degrees and you’ve been wandering around a giant polo field for three days. So of course, it was no surprise to spot a bounteous sea of them this weekend, but we’re very happy that both Kelly O and Lindsay Lo brought their own personal twist to the trademark.

After previously looking set for a game of Bingo, what a relief to see La Osbourne ditching her gran rags and going for very on-trend double denim. Likewise, we were surprisingly impressed with Lilo (must be the sun going to our heads) and her tie-dye take on the trend. We love that she’s channeling 'Clash of the Titans' with her rocking footwear, too.

The inVESTments

Aggy we love you, Aggy we do. Once again the model has made our Best Dressed list thanks to this mish-mash of a checked shirt and rocker tee clashing with neon laces and vibrant nails - but it’s that studded waistcoat that’s really got us pining. Yep, it’s one piece of apparel that has long been a part of the fashion scene thanks to the likes of Mossy and, as you can see from these Britters, they’re getting a fresh spin in time for the festival season. Like Aggs, Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe layered up and brought a masculine twist to their super short shorts. So festive lovers, with the moto ‘three’s a trend’ in mind, it’s time to take note if you’re after that much-coveted edgy attitude.

The Neon Vuitton

And finally, we return to our queen of crazy festival chic. Katy Perry resorted to high-fashion for the last day but still managed to pull off the essential casual chic aesthetic thanks to a paint-splattered effect on Louis Vuitton’s camouflage dress direct from their SS10 catwalk. The fuschia boots, green glasses and multicoloured bag are the icing on this very neon cake. We wouldn’t expect anything less...
