Anya & Barbour - coat'll do nicely

15 April 2010

OOoooooooh what’s this? First look at the countryside-tastic line of coats by handbag supremo Anya Hindmarch for British heritage brand Barbour. Anya has said that the aim of the range would to have something that would make her look a little bit less like a ‘pavement girl’ when she is flouncing around her country estate.

She went on to shower the iconic outerwear makers with praise, saying;

“Barbour is part of my childhood, and the feel and smell of a Barbour waxed jacket is something that evokes home, family and country weekends. It was fascinating working in the archives, hearing the Barbour stories behind some of the coats from explorers, military men and heroines.”

Now we can see the finished product for the first time we see that, while remaining true to the spirit of Barbour, the accessories designer has sprinkled the practical coats with her own quirky, glamorous touches. For example the coats have labelled inside pockets for 'Lipstick', 'Dog and Bone' and a detachable pouch for coins.

One thing though Anya, the thought of going for a bracing stroll in regal, velvet cuffed style like this, doesn’t really tie in with the image of mud spattered wellies and brambles, does it? We think ours’ll be much better suited to strutting down Bond St, thanks very much!
