Danielle Steele keeps Louboutin out of the red

The amount of red soles we see clacking around London, it’s clear that Christian Louboutin’s business has not been affected by the recession. In fact according to a recent interview, he recalled his reaction to the economic crisis to be ‘What’s credit crunch? Is that a new gym?’ So the recession thankfully passed him by. Which is totally unsurprising when you hear that he sells over 340,000 pairs a year and he estimates that about 3,000 of his customers own about 500 pairs of his shoes each. Yes, each. And his biggest client of all is super-novelist Danielle Steele who owns at least 6,000 pairs. ‘She comes to Paris, and she literally buys everything. Then she flies back to New York, says, 'I'm a little disappointed — there's nothing in the store,' and walks out with 80 pairs.’ Can you even imagine owning 6,000 pairs of shoes? No, us neither. Christian has also revealed that his now famous red soles were a spontaneous decision. ‘My assistant was painting her nails, and so I added it to the sole of a sketch.’ And ta-da a super-brand was born.
