Happy 50th Birthday Dr. Marten!

Well whaddya know, that eternally sartorial strut that comes only with a brand spanking new pair of Dr. Marten boots is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. And boy have we got some stories to tell! Created by a German doctor after he injured his foot, and loved by supermodels and rock stars alike, no self-respecting fashionista’s wardrobe is complete without her trusty Docs. And now, with a plethora of tough chick, utility and girly girl styles to choose from, we asked some of our fashion team to recall their favourite DM experiences…

‘I thought I was a teen rebel in my DMs and plaid shirts at school. I had 12-hole (the number of holes was VERY important) black ones, but I never changed the laces, I liked to keep them authentic. I also ruined one family weekend away in London by dragging my parents to every shop looking for a very specific pair of purple DMs. I finally found them in Oxford, wore them maybe twice, and decided I didn't really like them. Again, mum and dad, sorry about that...’

'School was so much more exciting after I got my black DM’s. Rebel? Moi? Hell yeah!'
Lily Russo

'I got my first pair of pink DMs when I was just 8 years old, and wore them day in day out until I grew out of them. Looking back on it, the decision to style them up with some dungarees was probably a mistake (thanks Mum!), but I've still got them at the back of my wardrobe even though they haven’t fitted for years.'
Natalie Hasseck

'I teamed my first pair of low cut DM’s with cycling shorts and a matching bra top, and decorated them with Grolsch beer bottle tops. I promise you, it was the HEIGHT of fashion back in the 80’s!'
