The Enchanted Palace

26 March 2010

Kensington Palace, formerly home to Princess Diana, is being transformed. As a building that housed a number of princesses over the years, part of the £12 million makeover that it is undergoing is all about fashion.

Designers like Vivienne Westwood, William Tempest, Stephen Jones, Boudicca, Aminaka Wilmont and Echo Morgan have all created bespoke fashion installations to fit into what looks like a spellbinding project.

The idea is that the venue is to be used for live performance, and as an eerie but super-beautiful backdrop are these amazing fashion/art pieces, all created to fit in with the theme of princesses, and the stories of seven royal ladies. From rebellious princess who ran from an arranged marriage into the arms of love, to sad queens who bore the pain and sadness of lost babies.

The results are dreamlike and magical, from this regal creation from Vivienne Westwood, to this luminescent piece from Echo Morgan to the room full of glass bottles designed to catch the copious tears of the broken hearted princess (!)
