Is it curtains for celeb stylists?

26 March 2010

There's a new craze sweeping Hollywood celebsville. . . *gasp, hands clapped to mouths* . . . famous people take the advice from those notorious ‘worst dressed’ lists and Sack The Stylists!

Oh no! Will this mean Rachel Zoe, Gok Wan and L’Wren Scott all hanging out at Bluewater during the daytime, drinking endless cups of coffee and trying to come up with plans for a new career? We doubt it, but according to professional stylist Shirley Kurate;

“What's happening now is that studios are cutting budgets for stylists so a lot of girls are dressing themselves. For someone like Diane Kruger or even Tilda Swinton , they're savvy enough to know what works, and they clearly have direct access to the designers so they're probably having actual fittings before they hit the red carpet as opposed to someone else in Hollywood working without a stylist, like Blake Lively  for example."

Savvy fashion commentators have made the connection that neither Marion Cotillard or Diane Kruger; - two of the most consistent red carpet best dressers, rely on the services of a stylist. Interesting. Meanwhile it seems that the super stylists may be at the end of their halcyon era, having somewhat priced themselves out of the market with their £4000 per day fees (per day? We are definitely in the wrong job)

Just one leedle niggle though. . . so Marion Cotillard doesn’t have a stylist.  We don't have a stylist either, but we doubt you'd find Mademoiselle Cotillard doing a sweaty palmed, wild-eyed raid on Topshop 10 minutes before closing time the day before a big event, seeing as she's the face of Christian Dior, with John Galliano and his team on speed dial. Life envy? us?  . . . . maybe a tiny tad.
