Gaga's spectacle spectacular!

Neither Timmy Mallet, Carri Mundane or Elton John will be sleeping as easily in their beds now the news leaks out that Lady Gaga is to design a range of glasses for the ne plus ultra of eyewear brands – Linda Farrow.    

We already know she’s a fan of all types of face furniture – veils, masks, eye patches and especially cool shades. We’re quivering with excitement to think what flights of fancy will escape her drawing board when she’s let loose at the iconic 70s luxury brand. Surely they’ll draw the line at smouldering fag butts, as seen in her explosive Telephone video?  

Linda Farrow is the brand that started off cool (founded in 1970 by the lady of the same name, originally a womenswear designer) and just got cooler and cooler. Both the vintage specs and the current ranges are cult fashion items, and whereas other big brands use their sunglasses lines to bolster profits by stamping their logo onto standard designs, Linda Farrow is the real deal, continually experimenting with shapes and the proportions of the face – with unmistakably ace results.  (Imagine Yoko Ono in her trademark wraparounds - or big 70's thrillers)

Recently the brand has been pushing itself further out there with collaborations with Moloko singer Róisín Murphy last month, and has also created sunglasses for designers including Alexander Wang, Matthew Williamson and Dries Van Noten in the past.  

We do hope this rumour turns out to be true. Already the prospect of a holiday without a huge pair of shades in the shape of retro Cadillacs (or perhaps a pair of platform shoes, mmm?) suddenly doesn’t seem like much of a treat at all.
