EXCITEMENT here at Grazia Daily! Something thrilling is coming your way. As previously flagged up in this week’s issue of Grazia, from tomorrow, we will be kicking off our documentary series about designer Todd Lynn – which will be exclusively shown right here on Grazia Daily, in twelve brilliant weekly ‘webisodes’.
Fashion Phoenix is a fly-on-the-wall peek at Todd’s life and work, charting his rise from his humble beginnings in his grandmother’s apartment in Spring Falls, the small town in Canada in which he grew up, before traveling to London to study at Central Saint Martins. Lynn worked alongside Roland Mouret for seven years, before launching his own label in 2006 to international acclaim.
But above all, Todd is ‘rock n roll’s best kept secret’ honing his tailoring skills creating bespoke outfits for music royalty like Bono, Mick Jagger, Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love. His distinctive androgynous womenswear is expertly cut, from his legendary tailored slim-leg trousers to his razor sharp jackets. His style is fierce in every sense of the word. He is a celebrated fixture on the London Fashion Week schedule (this season, Mouret and Janet Jackson were FROW) and his clothes sell in the world’s most luxurious stores.
This access-all-areas footage shows the man behind the brand - a self-financed upstart with a hard-working team of charismatic characters, director John Bland presents the highlights from years of observing Lynn as he built his reputation as one of London’s most exciting designers. Lynn describes the “Todd Lynn woman” as ‘fearless with a heart full of rock'n'roll’, which sounds like the designer himself.
Tomorrow we debut Fashion Phoenix with a double bill, starting with a peek through Todd’s photo album [Episode 1: The Hair Was Always A Struggle] and then an insight into his I’m-with-the-band years [Episode 2: We Were Held Hostage].
But let’s get Todd to introduce Fashion Phoenix himself, below..
