Last night’s Best Dressed: fit for a Queen!

It’s the age old question we often find ourselves faced with: what to wear to meet the Queen? While Lady Gaga deemed it fit to don an enormous PVC red gown for her meet-and-greet, the attendees of last night’s event at Buckingham Palace - including our very own Style Director Paula Reed - observed royal protocol in a more traditional manner. Check out who wore what as fashion’s finest flocked to the celebration of the British Clothing Industry, hosted by our Queen Liz...

First up, we have the delectable designer Christopher Kane who formed a formidable fashion twosome with his big sis. Tammy’s regal attire consisted of her sibling’s SS10 signature checks under a clashing snakeskin jacket to toughen up the floating fawn frock. Beautiful.

Adding to the event’s glitz and glamour was Yasmin Le Bon in a similar colour palette. The uber model-meets-mum sported a shimmering sequinned number under what we hope is a faux fur jacket and accented by emerald jewels. What a stunner!

Both Erin O'Connor and Twiggy decided to stay demure with a black and white combo but the addition of a striking print guaranteed an edge. Spot on ladies! We’re particularly enamored with Erin’s Viktor & Rolf ruffled collared silver jacket from the archive Fall 2009 collection and that oh-so-chic Daphne bag by Smythson that she’s barely put down lately. And since the Queen knows one or two things about her handbags, surely it won’t be long before her Maj is carrying one herself... Keep your eyes peeled, fash fans!

Erin’s fellow model Sophie Dahl did her bit for British style by sporting some homegrown talent in the shape of a red Temperley dress with cream detailing, accented by the most fitting accessory - the designer herself! We’re loving Alice’s decision to up the patriotic vibe by working a black and cream Union Jack dress from her own label and the dash of English eccentricity courtesy of a PVC bow-embellished hat is sheer genius.

Putting Lady Gaga’s dramatic red gown antics to shame, Zandra Rhodes stayed true to her beloved flamboyance and theatrical style with this blue delight of geometric prints which she designed especially for the occasion. Here’s hoping her Highness approved...

Finally, we jump across the pond to pay special attention to Jennifer Aniston who got sexy in a subtle way last night - and without an LBD in sight. Hurrahs all round!

Jennifer Aniston

In contrast to her glitzy metallic mini-dress that she wore to The Bounty Hunter’s London premiere, Jen went the elegant route and glided about the Stateside screening, Grecian Goddess style. The draping on her asymmetric dress from Donna Karan’s SS10 collection is just divine - especially where it falls to reveal one sultry shoulder - and the tan Ferragamo clutch brings a striking contrast. To summarise, she simply glows. But what say you to today’s selection? Love or loathe?
