From the woman whose pivotal fashion moments have included not one, not two, but at least a dozen high cut leotards, countless conical bras, a couple of crucifixes, some roller skates and a pimping fur coat for good measure (and for when leotards get drafty) we’re suitably intrigued to find out exactly what Madonna’s next venture into fashion-land is. News being that Her Madgesty is launching multiple, yes, that’s multiple, fashion lines. We’re excited! And so is Madonna, who released this somewhat formal statement, “joining forces with Iconix to bring my fashion ideas to consumers is very exciting for me...I look forward to working closely with [chairman and chief executive officer of Iconix] Neil [Cole] and his team to create and translate my vision and ideas for MG Icon”. Erm, yay!
Spreading her stylish ideas in America and beyond, she’ll also consider acquiring a few existing brands too (please say it’ll be something entertaining like Tie Rack). Now, we’re not quite sure we can pinpoint where Madonna's style is at in 2010… trucker caps, rather a lot of leather, many many tracksuits, and a cream linen suit briefly sum up her current wardrobe. But if the masters of elegant sexiness, Dolce & Gabbana, still rate Madonna’s cool cred enough to make her the star of their latest spring/summer collection ads, then we’ll hear this out. And we'll admit her H&M collaboration a few years back was quite a sell out…
So, what’s the first stop on M’s fashion train? Keeping her young fans happy, tweens will be able to fill their worlds with her Material Girl collection. We’re thinking tutus, rhinestone studding, logo tees, perhaps a kooky pair of pink plimsolls, and hopefully a noticeable lack of fishnet, underwear-as-outerwear and thigh high boots. Doubtless she’ll tap Lourdes for a few ideas - she does, after all, have quite a cute little style of her own. So for all the little’uns out there with dreams of becoming a glittering success in the pop-o-sphere, this is their lucky (star) day! And for others who fancy achieving the get-the-blasted-paps-outta-my-face vibe that Madonna so fondly channels, there will be a sunglasses range to come out as well.
