Is Gareth Pugh to take over at McQueen?

So what have the fashionistas been chattering about in Paris? Was the goss on everyone’s lips over the champagne and anchovy canapés?

The Grazia girls’ telegrams bring news from across the Channel of one topic. Will Gareth Pugh take over at Alexander McQueen? It seems more than one person has passed on this rumour.

Today Mr Pugh’s PR Mandi Lennard sent the following statement to Grazia –

“Further to speculative reports, Gareth Pugh is not in discussions with Gucci Group about a Creative Director role at Alexander McQueen

It is understandable that people are making a connection between the two designers. Gareth’s career path seems to have mirrored McQueen’s –  exit from Central Saint Martins covered in glory, fantastically theatrical shows which became the hot ticket at LFW for a good few years, followed by (in Gareth’s case, sponsored by ANDAM) a move to Paris.

Pugh has considerably refined his style over the past few seasons and produced, for A/W10 particularly – more and more wearable garments, as well as his latest show-stopper - those pyramid-like bat wings worn by Lady Gaga during her in-bath performance on X Factor. But while we love a bit of Pugh, apparently an appointment is not on the cards just yet...
