Oscars: Live Red Carpet Blogging!

07 March 2010

It's almost Oscar time. Over in LA, the lippy has been applied, the dresses are on and cars are awaiting their glamorous passengers. So here in London we are heading over to Soho House to live blog the red carpet arrivals throughout the night. Who'll be best dressed, who'll be dressed in a bonkers Bjork style and who'll play it safe? We're looking forward to seeing Victoria Beckham, Carey Mulligan and Sandra Bullock...what will they wear?

Back soon!

11.30: And we're off. Anna Kendrick one of the first to arrive in nude ruf fled off-the-shoulder number. Nice. But bit blah.

11.31: Ah, she's with her mum. That makes us feel a bit mean. Her dress is Eli Saab - her second choice after her first looked totally wrong.

11.32: Er, Angela Griffin - that fashion icon - is presenting Sky's red carpet coverage. Interesting choice...

11.33: Zac Efron. What is that hair about? Frosted tips. Also - makes us feel a bit sick that a 19-year-old is at the Oscars. And we're not. (Jealous, much?)

11.34: Mariah Carey in Valentino - with lots of bling. 'Frosting' is theme so far.

11.36: Patricia Fields words of beauty 'wisdom' 'If you eat processed food you look like soft cheese' - er, ok?!

11.39: Tom Ford looking hawt. White corsage in pocket. Surely chicest Oscar outfit of the night. Wonder if suit's Tom Ford? Yeah, probably.

11.40: Sigourney Weaver in scarlet. Looks like Lanvin. We like.

11.42: James Cameron wearing a blue handkerchief in his pocket which matches his wife's gown. Sweet. We can't wait to see Kathryn Bigelow though.

11.44: Tina Fey opted for black and long gown after her Zac Posen disaster at the Globes. Works better.

11.45: Lots of blue on the red carpet already. And a few flashes of red. We hear that Maggie G is wearing Dries but yet to see it.

11.46: Tom Ford thinks Angela Griffin looks 'nice'. Is he just being polite? Can we just repeat he looks hot.

11.47: White rose in Mo'Nique's hair. Second theme of the night after Tom Ford's corsage. (Ok, we'll stop talking about him now).

11.49: Diane Kruger in monochrome ruffled number. Must be Chanel surely? She looks gorgeous as ever.

11.50: Yep, Sigourney's in Lanvin. We've clearly not had enough cocktails if we're calling it right on sight...

11.51: Ryan Reynolds is going stag as wife Scarlett J is on Broadway. We'll be your date any day, Ryan...

11.52: Zoe Kravitz with her dad. Ahh. Velvet red and white column dress.

11.53: Oooh Sandra's in the house. Lace embellished champagne silk gown. Has potential but we need to see more of

11.55: Well, we're right again. Diane K is in Chanel Couture (which is the gown we predicted she'd wear to the GG's). Is there anyway we can make money from these skills???

11.56: Patricia Field thinks that Sandra Bullock looks 'comfortable' in her dress. Plus Pat reveals that she was supposed to style The Blind Side, but couldn't do it.

11.58 Nick Part wearing suspect green metallic bow tie.

00.00: Carey Mulligan is wearing black Prada and she says she

00.03 Patricia Fields talking SATC2 - all about belly dancers and fantasy. Anyway, back to Oscars.

00.05 Miley Cyrus in ivory Jenny Packham. Is it too old for her? The jury is out.

00.07: Did Sandra B just say she is wearing vintage?? We can't hear in Soho House!!

00.08: She looks amazing though. Love the pink lipstick and glossy hair swept to the side. Is it bad if we are on Team Sandy for the Best Actress Oscar?

00.10: Hope Lynn Barber is on the carpet - An Education is her story after all.

00.10: Spotted SJP in grecian number. Think it might cause split opinions, but we will wait to see the whole look first. Her hair is AMAZING though. Will that work for us at work tomorrow?

00.12: Update: Sandra Bullock in vintage Marchesa. Is there such a thing considering it's hardly an old label.

00:12: Carey's mum, brother and dad are with her. We need an actress in our family too! Damn untalented siblings!

00.14: Ah, Tom Ford called Colin Firth to wish him good luck and sleep well last night. Bless.

00.16: Maggie G loves Dries Van Noten - he designed her wedding dress and she's wearing him again tonight. Tropical prints. Her husband's wearing Tom Ford tux he wore at his wedding. Sweet.

00.18: Melanie Griffiths in Versace and with pink lips - which, let's just say, really stand out. Pink's the new red it seems. Love Antonio's beard too btw.

00.19: SJP in Chanel Couture. She says easy decision - saw it on the runway 5 weeks ago and wanted it straight away. Dismisses talk of her being a 'fashion icon'. But has she had an afternoon spray tan?

00.21: Spotted Penelope Cruz in strapless maroon gown. No close up yet though.

00.22: Not sure how we feel about sunglasses on the red carpet? Sure it's LA but still...

00.24: Colin Firth's wife Livia is divine. Love that all her red carpet dresses have been eco too.

00.26: Recap video montage of this year's oscars contenders. So Angela can sort her hair/flip flops out?!

00.27: Ooooh George Clooney's in the house. 'I won't win because my character's too like my real life persona.' His girlfriend/fiancee (?!) is wearing scarlet with matching handbag.

00.28: Initial thoughts on Meryl Streep's white column dress: gorgeous. but is it her dressing gown?

00.29: HUGE cheers in soho house for Gabe from Precious in blue, flower embellished dress. A favourite here it seems. Though we don't think she'll win.

00.30: Helen Mirren knows how to dress for her age doesn't she? Looking oh so r egal.

00.32: Jeff Bridges designed his own tux. And it looks good.

00.34: Sandra Bullock turned down the Blind Side numerous times because she didn't think she could do the character justice. She works out every day though so a sports movie...

00.35: Kristen Stewart looks surprisingly put-together. She's actually washed her hair. And is wearing a full length midnight blue fish-tail gown.

00.36: Sandra Bullock's dress was her step-daughter's favourite so that's why she wore it. It's def Marchesa. Could she be any greater?

00.39: Jeff Bridges's wife wearing pink lippie too. You know what they say - three's a trend.

00.40: We've got such a crush on Jeff Bridges. (Yes, really) He's the only man who can pull off flock-of-seagulls haircut. Our bet's on him to take away best actor gong.

00.42: So who's left to arrive? Kate Winslet? Mickey Rourke causing trouble? Jennifer Aniston? Victoria Beckham? Jordan? OK - jokes. But she IS in LA.

00.46: Miley Cyrus will be heading straight home after the ceremony not to any parties. 'You know me. You've got to keep my under control'

00.47: NEWSFLASH! Gerald Butler in the house. NOT with Jen. Oh dear. Will she skip the red carpet for second year running?

00.49: Kate Winslet arrives. She's going that old-school Hollywood thang (again!) in champagne gown. (Or contro - two piece bustier and skirt?) Wish she'd be a bit more experimental. But guess she knows what suits her. That one hand on hip pose. Love the necklace.

00.50: So apparently the arrivals are timed to the minute according to A-list status. That means Kate Winslet comes high on the Hollywood ranking. We're confused as to where Cameron Diaz is though. She's being styled by Rachel Zoe so must be coming.

00.51: J Lo is here in a huuuuge dress but done no interviews. Boo.

04:07: Yep we're back! Since we've been gone Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin have done a great job presenting, George Clooney's been mardy, Kristen Stewart has actually managed to smile and Hurt Locker's on it's way to winning Best Picture. Whoop! (we hope!)
