Kate Moss - model, muse and fashion guru is soon to add another category to her CV – twinkle toes. She is going to be one third of a trio with Michael Clark and Mikhail Baryshnikov in a one-off short dance film. Clark is the legendary choreographer, enfant terrible of the dance world, and former clubbing partner of Boy George and Leigh Bowery while Baryshnikov is the Russian colossus of the ballet world and rather excitingly also famous for his second career; being Carrie's lurrve interest for a few episodes of SATC.
Michael Clark has upset the dance establishment on many an occasion with his avant-garde performances and costumes and this time around looks to be no different. His choice of muse has infuriated people who are posting furiously on talk boards, complaining that real dancers train for years, and literally bleed and suffer for their art, while Kate is now able to sweep in and take a role that could have gone to an up and coming dancer instead.
Apparently Mossy has signed up for private ballet lessons with Clark and is set to embark on a gruelling three-month training regime before filming starts in Marseille in July. Members of the production team have defended the idea, since it is a film, rather than a live performance so “In Michael’s eye as a film-maker, the movement of the camera dances already by itself. It will be an extremely interesting collaboration”. And added “It will be shown at some sort of fund-raiser but if anything it will go into a gallery where everybody can see it. I think that is how Michael sees it.”
Well, we think it sounds intriguing. Of course Kate Moss does not equal Darcey Bussell – but then she can bring something different to the project. All good models have to use their bodies to express ideas plus we all know she must have good rhythm – after years of practice out clubbing and trailing round all the Primal Scream, Babyshambles and The Kills gigs she must have been to.
Elsewhere – this ballet idea could be about to catch on! Darling of Hollywood Emily Blunt has been pushing herself to the limit doing ballet training for her latest film The Adjustment Bureau, in which she stars with Matt Damon. She groaned "I’m really loving the challenge. I’m training with this amazing ballet company, and it’s been a real awakening for me when it comes to fitness. Everything hurts all the time." Grazia Daily says - as a fitness trend it certainly sounds more elegant to us than an hour of pole dancing. And would we be able to get another adorable wrap-around cardi like the one we had aged four?
