There are some people that you just DON’T talk to during Fashion Week. The powerful editors of the Anna Wintour or Carine Roitfeld ilk, uber-front-row celebs like Janet Jackson or the can’t-touch-this be-sunglassed and insanely dressed fash-folk and too-cool-for-school ‘it’ kids. But sometimes, just sometimes, you have enough champagne in you to fuel a brave moment to, in the words of Nike, just do it. This is exactly what happened at the crazy Alice in Wonderland Selfridges party last night… We’ve been long admiring the bizarrely wonderful stylings of Japanese fashion guru Yu Masui (we first remember spotting him a few seasons ago wearing a sheer flouro Jil Sander dress) and we finally said hi. The self-confessed ‘style icon’ is also known for his cute-as blog and freelancing for Vogue Japan and WWD Japan amongst many others. It’s hard to explain his eclectic and gotta-do–a-double-take style, but we’re pretty sure there’s no one on this planet that can rock a turquoise shaggy lambs-wool Marios Schwab coat quite like him (even if there was a rival wearer at the show this week) or get away with wearing sexy Prada lace, Balenciaga florals or fluffy shoes. And he always, always, always has a quirky hair accessory to throw into the mix. Last night we spotted him bobbing around like a stylish little beacon because of the two giant red plastic cherries on top of his head. And so, we approached, tea cup in hand (containing special ‘Mad Hatter’s Punch’) and RELIEF! Yu totally loves Grazia. Tis one of his favourite magazines and he thinks it’s the only publication of its type – and that nothing compares. Well, Yu, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. And, you know what? Nothing compares to Yu!
