Like us, you probably wonder just where in the world Lady Gaga and her creative team, Haus of Gaga, manage to find her outrageous outfits. Not the high street, that’s for shizzle. So of course, each time Gaga-ooh-la-la steps out in either a stiletto-covered leather jacket or a bondage suit or what looks like a frilly loo-roll cover, we just have to find the answers. Luckily enough, her stylist, the supremely talented Nicola Formichetti documents her fashion movements via his Twitter and blog. This enabled us to discover that her Brit performance outfit – the nude and white lace bodysuit – was designed by artist and designer and generally uber-creative and sought after guy, Alex Noble. He’s already created show pieces and music video outfits for her, including that raunchy red cutout bandage strap suit for ‘Bad Romance’. Being such inquisitive types we tracked Alex down for a little Q&A. Alex Noble meet Grazia Daily, Grazia Daily meet Alex Noble….
How did Lady Gaga decide to wear your bodysuit for her performance on The Brits?
The Brits is such an important and iconic event in the industry and I was so excited to be specially asked by her stylist Nicola Formichetti to create the outfit.
Did you make the bodysuit especially for Gaga?
It was made especially for the event the night before and in the day time run up to the performance, the concept of white lace was in place and the outfit was then inspired by the Philip Treacy mask she wore.
Was it tricky carefully placing lace in the *ahem* right areas?!
I sculpted the lace over the mesh body on my dress makers stand, but it wasn't until the first try of the outfit that I saw whether it was all in the right places and fit correctly, there was a definite 'phew' under my breath when it fit so perfectly.
Lady Ga Ga has some of your pieces before; have the two of you cemented a creative bond?
I've been making pieces for Lady Gaga for around eight months now and will continue to do so. There is definitely a creative bond between every one working in and around the 'Haus of Gaga' and the concepts are always so much fun and really interesting to work on.
What is Lady Ga Ga like during her fittings?
She’s very interesting, really creative and a lot of fun. Super sweet and she has a very sharp sense of humour.
So, what’s next for you Alex?
I've just finished working on some amazing tour outfits for Ga Ga, but now it's back to the art world for a while and a project for Selfridge's windows.
