Hair Wars

Now, everybody loves an Anna Wintour story but this time it’s not been generated by the redoubtable editor’s own carefully phrased bon mots – no, its Elle magazine’s new stateside publisher Carol Smith whipping up the controversy.

Apparently Ms Smith is so fed up with people assuming that she copied Wintour’s hairstyle she’s now gone on record, in the Daily Front Row, brandishing a picture of herself at High School no less, in case anyone is really worried about which one had the Mary Quant-style helmet first.

We’re not going to hold our breath waiting for Ms Wintour to respond (We’ve watched the September Issue soooooo many times, and even tried to use her technique of saying ‘Thanks’. And then refusing to look at the person anymore when we want to end a conversation, although, mysteriously it doesn’t work for us . . .)

Anyway, maybe Carol Smith can find another solution. There is certainly enough room in New York for two women with the same ‘do, all Carol needs is a complementary trademark. HOWEVER, might we suggest she steers clear of

  1. Sunglasses
  2. Starbucks cups
  3. Mink coats

Apart from these though Carol, the world is your oyster.
