Late last night, sitting blurry-eyed at our desks, the Grazia Daily team were pleasantly interrupted by a telephone call from none other than mega-model Naomi Campbell. Yes! Ms Campbell is currently putting together plans for her TWO charity fashion shows in aid of Haiti this month, and wanted to keep you abreast of current developments.
Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief events will be star-studded fashion shows and auctions, held at Fashion Week in New York and London, to raise funds for CARE and the White Ribbon Alliance for rebuilding Haiti's healthcare system for mothers and children.
Naturally we were delighted to converse with the First Lady of the Catwalk, and proceeded to shake her down for info on her project for Haiti, modelling, and of course, her wardrobe…
Grazia Daily: How can we get involved with your catwalk shows?
Naomi Campbell: We’re doing it this Friday in New York for Haiti, and on February 18th in London. You can buy tickets from Ticketweb. And all the donated garments will be sold online at net-a-porter.com starting from March 15th.
GD: Can you give us any hints as to who’s walking in your shows?
NC: It’s just bad luck! I don’t want to [jinx it].
GD: What do you miss (or not miss!) about doing all the catwalk shows?
NC: ‘Not miss’? I definitely do miss them! I like doing catwalk shows. I couldn’t do every country and every show, which I usually would love to. It’s nice to be invited and watch the shows and remain close to a lot of the designers I’ve known since I was 16. And when they do ask me to do one, I’m still as nervous and anxiety-ridden as I was when I started. It’s still the same feeling for me. But I do love doing them, I just don’t do them as much…
GD: Best fashion show you’ve ever modelled in?
NC: I can’t say there’s really one. I’ve got to work with amazing designers in the period of my career, Alaia, Versace, Galliano, McQueen, Marc Jacobs. They’ve been amazing. I can’t single out one show because they’ve all been special in their own ways.
GD: What are you wearing right now?
NC: I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt. These jeans are J-Brand and just a plain white t-shirt from Brazil, I don’t think it’s got a label in it…
GD: So what is your favourite fashion item for 2010?
NC: It’s a Louis Vuitton bag that Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton created, where the proceeds go to White Ribbon Alliance to rebuild Haiti’s healthcare system for mothers and babies.
GD: Which fashion piece could you not live without?
NC: I think everyone can always rely on an Alaia black dress.
GD: Which item from your BFF Kate [Moss]’s wardrobe do you most covet?
NC: I wear a lot of her [Topshop line]… She has a black chiffon top that I put on with a bikini but it’s a top to wear at night, too. And I wear that a lot. I also have the cut-off denim shorts. And I have her vest. All from her Topshop collection.
GD: Will you be rocking the new ‘petite stiletto’ this season?
NC: Oh, you mean without the platform? I like all types of heels, I like platforms, I like… Shoes are my thing. I just love shoes….
A woman after our own heart….
