Okay, forget Avatar. Burberry is going to live stream its London catwalk presentation to Tokyo, Paris, Dubai and New York – in 3D!
While guests will be sitting watching the ‘real’ fashion show at Chelsea College of Art & Design in London on 23 February at 4 pm, fashion editors and VIP guests in the selected cities will be putting on 3D spex to watch the larger-than-life broadcast in special ‘customized screening spaces’ - designed by Burberry’s own chief creative officer Christopher Bailey (seriously, is there anything this man can’t do?).
This morning Bailey told fashion industry bible WWD, ‘we are very excited to announce that we are hosting the first ever truly global fashion show… 3D technology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colours and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of that moment when it all finally comes together.’
Guests in Los Angeles will also get to see the 3D presentation, but a couple of hours later than the live broadcast, because of the time difference. And for the second season, Burberry fans can watch the show live (but only in 2D – boooo) at live.burberry.com and comment on the collection in real time, via the website, Facebook and Twitter.
Mr Bailey promises that ‘this unprecedented event will enable people to experience the energy and atmosphere of this event from around the world,’ and to add to the buzz, there will be pre-show behind the scenes, backstage footage and red carpet arrivals.
Now we just can’t wait to see whether Anna Wintour will be ditching her designer sunglasses for a pair of those Roy Orbison 3D spex we all had to wear for Avatar…
