After capturing our hearts in The September Issue, it became apparent that Grace Coddington is one artistic genius who prefers to stay below the radar. When the cameras arrived in the US Vogue offices, she refused to take part in the filming for four months but eventually succumed because “I didn’t really have an option!”. So you can imagine our surprise when this afternoon we hear that the creative director may have caught the movie-making bug...
Back in August last year when she was spotted dining with RJ Cutler, director of the fly-on-the-wall exposé, we hoped that Grace would become his new muse and now it seems our dreams are coming true. Because this week, RJ let slip that he’s planning on rejoining forces with Grace to create a big screen adapation of her book, Catwalk Cats. Although this time, the reluctant star will stay behind the camera. "We think it's going to be a big animated feature film about Grace Coddington's feline family,” he told The Cut. Will Grace provide a voice-over? “We'll see what happens...That's not the plan."
If you haven’t read the book then you really must, quick sharp. It’s a visual delight featuring the collections, the campaigns and the catfights that Grace and her partner Didier Malige work with, but all seen through the eyes of their furry family. Our favourite character is undoubtedly little sister Coco, a couture-obsessed chartreuse on a sashimi diet. There isn’t much difference between felines and fashionistas these days, you know. Now all that's needed is Big Boss Wintour to give Grace a few days off... Yikes!
