Haute Couture Week: Loewe's lovely leather jackets

In times like these it pays to play to your strengths and we have seen several houses produce special collections of their iconic pieces. We know the YSL Edition 24 collection will have the classic trench year round. And the Givenchy Capsule collection is the place to find those heavenly blouses no matter what season. To this growing roster Loewe has added a collection of leather jackets. For the luxury Spanish leather house it seems such an obvious move, it’s suprising they haven’t done it before. There are specialists in their Madrid workrooms who have worked their luxury skins for over 30 years.

With Stuart Vevers at the creative helm and his old Mulberry colleague Lisa Montague taking care of business, Loewe is upping their game. The new collection of sheepskins that feel as soft as cashmere and leathers that have the glow of a pampered complexion, include zipped biker jackets, minimalist bombers, hooded duffles and a trench that is so chic it practically speaks French.

Stuart launched the collection last night with an exhibition of photographs of his own icons wearing the pieces: Trish Simenon looking fabulously forty something and glamorous in the trench; her son Louis, looking ridiculously handsome for a teenager and unnervingly like his dad; and Pixie Geldof giving a bit of attitude in the reefer jacket. The collection hits the stores in the summer. Leather queens in the market for a look that will last forever, start saving now.
