The jewels of couture week

27 January 2010

There’s nothing that gets a fashion girl going quite like exquisite fine jewellery. All right, all right, shoes do it too. But when we heard the news that Chambre Syndicale’s couture week in Paris was about to get a whole lot sparklier (that’s a brilliant cut diamonds kind of sparkly) courtesy of the first ever fine jewellery show at the grand and glamorous Palace Vendome, we knew that we’d enjoy seeing many a couture queen deliberating over which Chanel Joaillerie neck piece would suit their newly purchased couture Dior gown. What to choose? What to choose?! Well darlings, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, Cirque du Soleil-inspired pieces at Boucheron should not be left off your high fashion shopping list.

But one of the biggest trends buzzing through the jewellery world is, in fact, for insects, bugs and all things creepy-crawly! Not the most beautiful source for inspiration you may scoff, but one look at Van Cleef & Arpel’s diamond, sapphire and aquamarine butterfly clip or Chaumet’s bee ring (a cocktail ring to sting all other cocktail rings into oblivion) will prove otherwise. And while we’d love to snap it all up, the reality is the closest we’ll get to seeing any of these pieces will be via the red carpet Oscar outfits on our computer screens. *Heavy sigh*.

One day that French billionaire will come and sweep us off our Givenchy-clad feet and shower us with rubies, we’re sure of it…
