Yikes! It’s McQueen’s new ad campaign

After scouring the spring ad campaigns, it looks like it’s been easy work for the models. The world’s finest females have spent much of the time showcasing the collections while reclining vulnerably on a pile of leaves (Lara Stone for Louis Vuitton), languishing provocatively among beautiful bags (Georgia Jagger for Versace), or sprawled seductively beneath Jamie Dornan (Eva Mendes for Calvin Klein). Alexander McQueen’s latest offering is no exception, for here lies Raquel Zimmermann shrouded in slithering snakes while lounging on a mound of sand for the designer’s edgy S/S ‘10 campaign, shot by Nick Knight. We love that this looks like a challenge from an episode of America’s Next Top Model (Tyra would be proud) and reminds us of Britney Spears’ snake-bearing performance circa her I’m A Slave For U days. But underneath all the scales, our eyes are drawn to a barely recognisable Raquel as the ultimate serpent goddess, looking surprisingly comfortable and simply divine, in an alien sort of way, wearing a brightly coloured all-in-one. Well, when you’re brave enough to be covered in creepy crawly reptiles, who needs accessorising? Which leads us to THOSE shoes...

While the likes of Lily Cole, Camilla Belle and most recently Anna Paquin at the SAG Awards have dared to wear McQueen’s magnificent designs, Lady Gaga and Daphne Guiness are the only non-models we’ve seen actually walking in the collection’s crazy Armadillo heels. And considering even the most professional of catwalkers, including Sasha Pivovarova and Natasha Poly, refused to risk clopping about in the 10-inchers, we can forgive Raquel for opting to stay on her back for this one.
