Adam Kimmel’s mad men

22 January 2010

We can’t let the week go by without mentioning the menswear shows that have been rumbling on in Milan and have now decamped to Paris, where the fashion pack will remain until Couture kicks off on Monday. And while we will bring you a round-up of the menswear trends next week – the boys need to know what they are going to be wearing come autumn too you know – we had to write about the genius Adam Kimmel styling now. Well, we say genius, but it’s also a bit brilliantly sinister. Walking into his presentation in Paris yesterday, guests saw the most surreal casino ever. Models stood at gaming tables in tweed, velvet, needle-cord and cashmere coats, jumpers and jackets – so far so normal – but it was their faces that no-one could take their eyes off.

Each boy was wearing a gruesome moulded mask. Gnarled features, bulbous eyes and twisted expressions, the heads were inspired by the American contemporary portrait painter, George Condo, and made by special effects artist Gabe Bartalos. Expect these puppies to pop up in many a style mag editorial over the A/W season, or haunt your dreams tonight!
