Rachel McAdams really is having a spotlight-stealing moment during her globe-trotting promotional tour. Next stop: Germany, for the latest premiere of Sherlock Holmes which was held in Berlin last night. The film’s female lead made the most of her statuesque figure in this teal Alberta Ferretti A/W '09 floor-sweeper vamped up by one voluminous sleeve and clinched with a contrasting sash. We’re loving those 1940s-inspired waves complemented by classic red lips for an old school Hollywood vibe. Giving Rachel a run for her red carpet kudos was Diane Kruger who also knows how to pack a punch but opted for a more modern ensemble by keeping the German spirit alive in a figure flattering frock from Karl Lagerfeld’s S/S '10 collection. This sculptural dress did double duty courtesy of a neckline bedecked with opulent metal embellishments to take the place of extra accessories, and those thigh-high leather boots are just the ticket for a fierce look. Also at the premiere in some eye-catching eveningwear was January Jones, showing us how to prettify a bold shoulder with this Valentino dress and by keeping the rest of her outfit simple, those ruffled layers really make a statement.
A neutral jacket is one wardrobe staple that’ll stand the test of time and it’s the ideal addition for a night on the tiles. Just look to the toast of New York’s glitterati who attended the book launch party for Eric Daman’s You Know You Want It yesterday. Bringing some colour into their after-hours wardrobes were trend tacklers Olivia Palermo, who nailed the look thanks to her vibrant velvet dress under a tad-too-tight cropped jacket, and Leighton Meester in a pretty pink and grey Louis Vuitton S/S '10 combo consisting of a quirky sheer jacket layered over a sheer top, allowing her underwear to peep through in a bang on trend touch. Also flashing her bra was co-star Blake Lively who cemented her cool credentials by sporting those edgy Stella McCartney perforated boots that are already a favourite among the fashwan crew, teaming them with her trusty tux over an oversized shirt for a masculine spin. It’s city chic as its best!
Also out and about in NY was Carey Mulligan who continued to sizzle in Prada style at the National Board Of Review Of Motion Pictures Awards wearing a dark and dramatic dress from the Resort 2010 collection finished off with an understated suede clutch for a no-fuss party ensemble while Anna Kendrick, another up-and-coming starlet, chose a more dynamic dress of chiffon tiers by Paule Ka. Although we appreciate a night in New York can be rather chilly Anna, tights teamed with those Sergio Rossi cage toe platforms only kill the frock’s cool colour palette.
The star-studded event's attendees also included Maggie Gyllenhaal looking very proper in a rich purple Lanvin sheath dress under her cosy coat that makes for the perfect fashionable cover up and when accessorised with a belt, the ensemble is ever-so-ladylike (ignoring what’s going on below the knees, that is...). Looking as lovely as ever, Lake Bell freshened up her asymmetric LBD with a bold necklace that really pops.
