The Best Dressed list: layer up!

08 January 2010

Blighty’s cold chill shows no sign of abaiting so Grazia Daily thought it best to provide you with some celeb-inspiration for winter weather chic. The snow and ice can pose all kinds of problems when it comes to deciding what to wear, so take a tip from these style muses and dig out a quirky pixie-hooded coat à la Agy, or go for a sleek silhouette like Cat if you’d prefer a ladylike rather than marshmallow look. Et voila, seasonal-related fashion dilemmas sorted. Phew!

It’s not easy to stay chic when the cold sets in but our favourite stylist Rachel Zoe proves that a knee-length structured coat + waist-emphasising belt + fierce patent ankle boots = all you need to stay sophisticated. Loving all that very on-trend woolly detailing although we’re not so sure the sunnies are necessary winter wear, Rachel... Also staying glam is Cat Deeley who looks classic in her grey asymmetric coat that she vamped up with a slick of red lippy for an instant colour pop. How very dapper. Sarah Jessica Parker also provides the perfect example of how to enliven your wardrobe with some colour when she stepped out in the New York snow. She’s been permanently attached to her hot pink Diane De Maria ‘Bonnie’ Bag recently and although it looks like one of Paris Hilton’s cast-offs, SJP tones down its uber-girlieness with this elegant black coat. Good work!

Agyness Deyn also has the answer to combat the predictability of bland colour combos: an oversized tartan cape. Agy always knows how to avoid looking drab with her casual cool ensembles and this get-up is no exception, plus her signature Dr Marten boots are just the ticket for stomping about in the NY snow. When leaving her quirky baker boy hat at home, the bona-fide model pulled on her favourite hooded fleece over what looks like a pair of PJs and tucked her hands into those deep pockets. Could she look any cosier? But ever considerate, Agy wasn’t the only one staying stylish and snug º her pooch was also wrapped up in his very own winter coat and yellow booties. Who’d have thought such a tiny dog could upstage La Deyn!

Our final inspiration today is courtesy of Kate Hudson who earned her fashion kudos when holidaying in Aspen. The actress wisely stuck to a sensible yet sleek combination of a faux fur coat layered over ripped jeans and sturdy boots to balance out the look. A statement handbag is all that’s needed for a fashwan fix.
