Are you part of the fashion game?

08 January 2010

There we were thinking that just being at a fashion show means that you are part of the big old crazy fashion game. After all, you queue, you get hollered at by power hungry ‘security’ men, you take notes, and then you get caught up in the grand (and terrifying) exit of heels and wedges. That sounds like being part of the game to me. But not according to New York fashion legend, Kelly Cutrone. PR, agent, show producer, Whitney Port’s mentor and many other things, Kelly knows a little bit about fashion, which is why her latest comments about fashion show seating plans have put us in a little bit of a bad mood; ‘The seating chart is a ritual,’ she reveals. ‘It’s important who’s where for a lot of reasons. Where you sit says how much power you have, how much money you have, where your level of importance is in the fashion industry. So if you’re in rows one, two, or three, you’re in the game. If you’re in anything above row three, you’re not in the game.’ Yikes. Imagine what she thinks of you if you’re standing. You are so far out of the game, you can’t even see the game!
