OK, so we’re a leeetle bit late! But we couldn’t miss out on congratulating Amanda Wakeley, Stephen Jones and Luella Bartley on being named in the Queen’s New Years honours list.
On 1 January, her Majesty The Queen appointed Wakeley and Jones Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and Bartley a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Wakeley, who celebrates 20 years of her signature label this year, was also honoured for her work as the as founding co-chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, a charity which has raised around £10m to raise awareness and fund research into Breast Cancer since 1996. Wakeley said: ‘I am extremely humbled by this honour. It is also recognition for the talented and committed teams that I am fortunate to work with both in my own business and at Fashion Targets. It’s an incredible way to complete an extraordinary year.’
Stephen Jones, who was honoured for his services to the fashion industry, said ‘around the world, millinery is seen as a uniquely British art and I am proud to be part of that tradition,' adding, 'I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to my talented staff and faithful clients who, like me, believe that self-expression in fashion need not stop at your neck.'
Meanwhile, Luella Bartley, whose Luella label closed after losing its investors in November last year, starts 2010 on a rather better note – with an MBE!
