My, my, there’s a lot going on in the world of jewellery at the moment. From celebs getting the design bug, to designers getting celeb-inspired, to a little bit of movie magic being thrown into the mix, jewellery is quite simply all over the fashion shop.
Starting our jewellery round-up off is Tom Binns who has created six special designs for the new Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland film (which we cannot WAIT to feast our eyes on when it comes out next year eek), all inspired by different characters including the Mad Hatter, the White Queen and Tom’s favourite, the evil Red Queen, whose necklace is made up of “interspersed red lacquered hearts with vicious little pins and thorns”. Yikes! We love this broken teacup necklace, and reckon this must be the one inspired by the Mad Hatter, non? He was the one who loved his tea, right? Although with Tim Burton’s penchant for all things dark and creepy (The Nightmare Before Christmas still makes our spine tingle…), this seems a little too pretty, perhaps. Anyway, we’re excited to see the rest of the range which will be sold as limited edition for between $1,000 (about £600) and $1,500 (about £914) in the Spring.
Secondly, we have a gorgeously bling piece of neck candy being worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in the new Sex and the City film, designed by none other than luxury jeweller Solange Azagury Partridge!
Solange told us; “I’m thrilled for my ‘Random’ Necklace to be guest starring in the ultimate girlie movie surrounded by the most fabulous, stylish, fun and naughty co-stars. ‘Random’ is full of deep, vibrant and colourful stones, as colourful as the characters in Sex and the City.” Amen to that!
Next, Brit favourite Stephen Webster is about to launch a new line, inspired by his A-list muse Christina Aguilera. The singer is already the face of Stephen’s high-end line and will now retail this new more purse-friendly collection on her own website.
"It's by Stephen Webster but it's Christina Aguilera-inspired," Stephen explains. "We're making the collection now and it's really for her fan base - for young people, not for my customers. It's got to fit in where Juicy Couture jewellery fit.” And what should we expect from the line?
"I took some iconic things about Christina and made it into jewellery,” says the designer. “I did a really cool big chain with big lips and the part that goes through the lips is a rose. There's a Christina charm bracelet and we did some things with her pets, some hats she's worn and something burlesque-themed.” Hopefully we'll see some genie-esque bits in there somewhere too...
Goodness, this is all sounding a bit off-the-wall so far, so perhaps our next offerings will balance things out. Although, we have to say, they’re definitely not quite as glam.
Ever since she moved to LA, there’s no denying Brit household name Cat Deeley has become much more fashion savvy than she once was. And now she’s taken the path trodden by many a celeb, by turning to fashion design and producing a jewellery line with home shopping channel QVC. Named quite simply Cat Deeley Vintage, it’s not amazingly exciting from the looks of it, but it’s simple, pretty and versatile so we reckon it’ll probably do pretty well. And we love how she’s broken well and truly out of the SMTV bubble of yesteryear.
And fiiiinally, Jessica Simpson is designing a ring collection with jewellery Pascal Mouawad. And while she’s keen to include wedding rings in the line, Pascal has apparently discouraged this. Grazia Daily can understand this one. With the singer’s erm, bad luck, in the marriage stakes, we wouldn’t really want her to jinx our wedding ring now…
So, when it comes to 2010 accessories, don't ever say you're stuck for choice, ladies!
