Last night’s best dressed: 'Nine' NY Premiere

16 December 2009

A film premiere in New York is guaranteed to be a night of glamourous gowns but when said flick includes four of Hollywood’s hottest leading ladies, the star wattage equals a beyond amazing red carpet. So, naturally, we bring you the most gorgeous numbers from the New York premiere for 'Nine' for your perusing pleasure...

penelope cruzNicole Kidman

Top of our list is Penelope Cruz who looked very festive in her ultra-beautiful liquid satin gown. The asymmetric draping, the jewel brooch on the hip, the matching Chopard diamond chandelier earrings, the softly waved hair = old school elegance. We’re in awe! As for another of Tom Cruise’s exes, Nicole Kidman upped her fashion ante after a rather disappointingly drab ensemble for the London premiere with this tres chic Prada puff-ball dress. Much better...

After being sorely missed at the prem in Leicester Square, Marion Cotillard more than made up for her absence with this divine strapless column dress. The embellished bodice brings some added interest to the sleek silhouette and the contrasting Chopard black diamond beads and black diamond heart ring to match her black nails and smokey eyes are a fabulous touch. Fergie also opted for a wonderful white frock by Marchesa and after her many flesh-flashing moments, it’s great to see her looking so lady-like in this Grecian style. Top marks for the dose of glitz courtesy of Chopard’s multi-cut diamond earrings, exquisite white diamond cuff and waist-enhancing silver belt.

After impressing us with her smart suit yesterday, Kate Hudson was back to her shimmering best in this sequin embellished Chanel Couture dress with an unusual sparkling black train. She accessorised the look with her glam mum, Goldie Hawn, who came along for some moral support - and what a pair they made in co-ordinating monochrome! Also joining in the family affair was Madonna plus up-and-coming Grazia style crush Lourdes. They continued the like-mother-like-daughter vibe by both choosing get-ups from Madge’s bessie designer mates, Dolce and Gabbana: while mum wore a classic D&G corseted cocktail frock with elbow-length gloves, daughter channelled Madonna's ‘80s style in a lacey Dolce & Gabbana S/S ‘10 dress teamed with Doc Marten boots and biker gloves. More of this please!

More double trouble came in the shape of the Olsen twins who donned a mad mixture of a maxi dress brightened up by a harlequin cropped jacket and bright blue clutch (Mary-Kate) and high waisted trousers, jewel-encrusted Manolo Blahnik heels and yeti-esque coat (Ashley). But if that wasn’t enough of a fashion fest, Naomi Watts also walked the red carpet in support of BFF Nicole Kidman and injected some colour to the proceedings thanks to her vibrant peplum dress by Marchesa with fabulous fold detailing on the shoulders. Ah-mazing.
