The celebratory atmosphere is rising, the champagne is at the ready, the red carpet is being unravelled at the enterance of The Royal Courts of Justice - this is as last minute as a fashion show. Soon the venue will be filled with fashion’s finest and we’ll be right in the thick of it, reporting LIVE from the British Fashion Awards! Team Grazia are beavering away to bring you all the latest goings on from the event that can be best described as the Oscars of the fashion world with our fashion moment by fashion moment account.
First up, what to wear? Grazia Editor Jane Bruton and Style Director Paula Reed are dressed up ready to go in Graeme Black and Maria Cornejo respectively, while the Grazia Daily team are armed with Flip video cameras and have brought out their sparkling glad rags - Web Editor Angela Buttolph is kitted out in a beautiful Clements Ribeiro dress courtesy of CoutureLab.com. And we're off! Check back here for more excitement from the biggest night in fashion...
19:29 - We've taken our places on the red carpet which has just been sprinkled with sparkling Swarovski crystals. Who will be the first fashionista to tred over them in their killer heels? You'll be the first to know!
19:33 - Hillary Alexander has just arrived dressed in a sharp shouldered tuxedo coat with sparkly jet epaulettes. Was it Balmain? Non! It was Dotty P thrown over her draped Reiss dress. And as the Telegraph fashion goddess says it "all happens on the British high street". Don't let the designers hear you say that, Hillary!
19:43 - Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, who are nominated for tonight's Emerging Talent Award, have just walked the red carpet and are looking really rather dashing. What a pair!
19:44 - Ben di Lisi revealed that his favourite dress of the year was Kate Hudson's "divine" Atelier Versace gown that she wore to the Nine premiere last week. "She was pure, elegant and obviously very happy to be there which was clear from her beaming smile." Awww.
19:50 - The story on everyone's lips is Victoria Beckham's stolen collection. Ben di Lisi says that it's happened to him many times and it's always devastating: "it's like losing your babies."
19:52 - Brix Smith Start is super excited and looking oh-so-fabulous in her Acne dress with a drop back, Nicholas Kirkwood shoes and Mulberry clutch. Just gorgeous!
19:55 - Jodie Harsh tells us his fashion tip for the party season is sequins, sequins, sequins! We're loving his Dolce and Gabbana trousers that he got from a sample sale.
20:01 - Gareth Pugh is working the red carpet with his dedicated mentor, fashion guru Mandi Lennard.
20:03 - Our style crush du jour, Amber Le Bon, has just arrived with her mum and dad in tow. Dressed in a velvet Topshop jacket over a black Mark Fast dress and accessorised with a Chanel 2.55 (a birthday present, she tells us) teamed with fierce grey platforms, she looks super duper! Her top tip when it comes to wearing velvet? "Always pick the type that feels soft!" It has been noted.
20:05 - Stephen Jones, hat designer extraordinaire, has suggested we create a Grazia phone and camera so we can always stay on the fashion pulse and we think that would be sheer genius. Just as long as you design a Grazia hat, Stephen! Tonight, he's working an embellished beret.
20:07 - Henry Holland has stopped by to tell us his 'favourite fashion moment of 2009' is X Factor (it's actually a singing contest Henry). He says he's a big fan of Cheryl Cole because she's been championing British designers. He names EVERY designer dress she's worn on this series of the X Factor. We are pathetically impressed. He's wearing his Prada studded shoes which have just upset the security guards at the metal detector machine (did we mention we're at the Royal Courts of Justice?). This happened at the London Fashion Week party at Downing Street too. This man never learns...
20:13 - Oh we love Karen Elson. She looks incredible in a floor-sweeping Alexander McQueen gown and matching red lip. The best thing about being a red head? "You attract very interesting men!" Well Karen certainly has, she's married to White Stripes frontman Jack White.
20:18 - Laura Bailey is just terribly cool. Tonight, she's wearing a bright yellow dress by Grazia favourite, Roland Mouret and has jazzed it up with a Louis Vuitton-inspired bunny-esque hair do. Fab!
20:20 - Christopher Kane has dressed his sister in one of his signature beige frocks with black velvet stripes that's uber flattering because "it sucks you in". Oh Christopher, you can only get away with a comment like that when it's your sister!
20:21 - Twiggy's wearing top-to-toe Stella McCartney (as is her daughter, who designs prints for Stella!). Her outfit consists of a peach camisole under a black tuxedo jacket and lace-sided leggings as seen on the designer herself recently. "I held Stella in my arms when she was two months old." What a story!
20:32 - Ok, our heart just had a serious fashion flutter. Victoria Beckham is in the building. She's wearing one of her own designs (what else?), has her hair in the same magnificent Geisha-esque creation we reported on this morning and is flashing a seriously huge blue rock on her finger. We're in absolute awe... (we'll give you all our Victoria gossip in a mo - check back later tonight!)
20:37 - We're gushing to Claudia Schiffer about our obsession with her school run outfits so the supermodel informs us that she wisely sticks to flats but if ever she has a heel day, they're always ones with wedges "so at least you feel you're in flats!" She's here to support Peter Pilotto and is doing well so far by working one of his red designs.
20:45 - Phew! And the red carpet moment is over. We're famished after all this celeb schmoozing but there's still more to come so check back here for more gossip from the awards show once we've had ourselves some grub!
22:45 - And the awards have begun! First up, Holly Fulton is presented with the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award. Dressed in a frock studded with blue crystals, she makes a very fitting winner plus she's holding the award, which looks like a giant emerald-cut diamond, and perfectly matches the perspex necklace of her own design that she's wearing - now that is style!
22:57 - Peter Pilotto is announced as the Swarovski Emerging Talent. On their way out, the duo asked Grazia for a photo on their Blackberry in order to send it to their mums! Bless. (we tried to persuade them there are likely to be a few pics in the papers tomorrow).
23:03 – Burberry is the Designer Brand of the year. Hooray for Christopher Bailey!
23:07 - And the Model of the Year goes to... Georgia May Jagger. What a stunner she is. Her mum, Jerry Hall, looks super proud and even screamed when she was announced as the winner!
23:12 - Georgia's just told us she's wearing big sister Lizzy's Vivienne Westwood cast-off (Georgia actually 'broke in' to her house last night to raid her wardrobe). We fall head over heels for her - and it seems the feelings mutual; she tells us Grazia is the only magazine she reads (natch). We think we love her even more... As for the Versace campaign she's starring in, apparently it all came about when Donatella called her mum! Awesome. It's already been shot by Mario Testino at the Dorchester hotel and Donatella even let her keep some of the clothes. Jealous? Us?
23:16 - Kate Moss wins the London 25 style icon award!
23:22 - And now La Moss is on her way out with pal Vivienne Westwood and "Uncle" Sir Philip Green. She tells Grazia that when she was a 14 year old teen, it was the Westwood "prostitute" shoes which she'd save her pennies for, plus crotch skirts and corset tops. At 14?! These style icons start young. (check back tomorrow for our full video of Vivienne Westwood waxing lyrical about exactly what makes Kate great - as the supermodel blushes and squirms!)
23:31 - Super-sexy Daisy Lowe presented Christopher Kane with his award for British Collection of the year. The Scottish designer let Grazia hold his award and it's as heavy as a boulder!
23:47 -OMG! Karen Elson just walked out looking beyond glamourous in her red velvet McQueen gown - AND FELL A METRE AND A HALF OFF THE STAGE! She is literally lying prostrate on the floor where she landed. People rush to help, but she insists on getting up and back on stage to present the Award for Fashion Creator to Grace Coddington. [update: amazingly, Karen only seems to have dislocated her thumb - ouch - but is later taken to hospital for a check up. she's blaming the fact that she wasn't wearing her glasses, but it seems that this evening's films are being projected onto a screen that appears solid but isn't, it's just a reflection in thin air - yup, even we're confused, no wonder the poor girl fell off the stage].
Grace Coddington really is a goddess. She told us that when she was a model in the 60's, there were no such thing as Ready to Wear labels so she'd either model Couture or no name labels. Grace also loves being a red head because she always stands out in a crowd and speaking of which, Karen Elson presented the Vogue Creative Director with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator while a film was shown of the shoot in which Grace dressed Karen up as herself. Genius!
23:55 - Christopher Bailey has won again! This time, he's been announced as the Designer of the Year - amazing. When he collected his award, Christopher had a very special announcement, that Burberry would be returning to show at London Fashion Week for a second season in February 2010. "So you must come back and blog from Horseferry House again!" Don't tempt us...
00:01 - Other award winners this evening include Katie Hillier as the Accessory Designer of the year, Kim Jones for Dunhill won Menswear Designer and John Galliano won Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design.
Well done, everyone!
Now.... where's the after party?
