We can't help but applaud Sarah Jessica Parker's bold choice of red carpet attire for the gala premiere of Did You Hear About the Morgans? last night. The beloved SATC actress arrived in London’s Leicester Square kitted out in a fabulous minidress, made and modified by L’Wren Scott, and accessoried with a snaking S.J.Phillips reptile necklace. The fuchsia pink hue is an absolute triumph and those colour co-ordinating Charlotte Olympia purple platforms would surely make Carrie proud. The same jacquard design was seen on Nicole Kidman at the CMA Awards last month but the shorter hemline and strapless cut of SJP’s number keeps the look fun and fresh. After braving the British weather, she wrapped up in a floor-length velvet coat also by L’Wren Scott complete with colour-popping corsage to match her frock and funky hat. We like. Elizabeth Hurley also opted for a flash of vibrant brights in her two-tone pink and red Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress to give ex-boyf Hugh Grant, who was walking the same red carpet, a reminder of what he’s missing... Thumbs up all round, ladies.
Now here’s a masterclass in power dressing if ever there was one! Rihanna chose another show-stopper for the launch party of VEVO, 'the world's premiere destination for premium music video and entertainment' (or something...). She worked the boxy ’80s trend to the max but by accenting the sharp-shouldered Alexandre Vauthier suit with gold accessories and fierce spike heels, the look is given a futuristic twist. Joining RiRi in New York was Ciara, who also caused a stir with her metallic mini that she shocked-up with a pair of OTK Louboutin lace-up boots to remind us of her wacky sartorial side. Wonder Woman eat your heart out! But top marks go to Lady Gaga for her latest choice. What a lovely surprise to see her looking so ladylike in this Valentino gown and dramatic eye make-up; even that pink-tinted hair bow lends an air of glamour. Perhaps her visit to the Royal Highness has forced her to rethink her bonkers wardrobe? We won’t hold our breath...
Stop right there Miss Rose Byrne! We did a double take when we saw the actress in this mesmerising number for the Bulgari auction at Christie's in New York City. She’s all set for the festive season with this perfect party number and we’re coveting the sparkling sequins, innovative pattern, monochrome palette, subtle accessorising, elegant high neck... Beyond beautiful with an air of figure skater glitz (the jury's still out on whether that's a good thing...). But moving onto Victoria Beckham, who landed back on British soil in time for the British Fashion Awards this Wednesday and brought a dose of LA laid-back cool with her. It’s great to see her looking so casual chic and the molten metallic tank top and matching cardy from her Denim Spring/Summer line ensures all eyes are on her. So last but by no means least is Maggie Gyllenhaal. The actress who decided to pull out all the stops and also go for silver at the premiere of her latest film, Crazy Heart, in LA. The floor-length silk gown is beautifully chic and with a fringed neckline and tied waist detail, the actress makes a serious statement. Ten out of ten.
