For today’s round-up of yesterday’s best-dressed stars, we would like to start with this beauty of a picture depicting the moment Lady Gaga met the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. There are no words - trust us, we’ve tried (but witty suggestions are always welcome below!). So without further ado, take a look at who wore what last night...
Royal Variety Performance
While we’re happy to see that she observed royal protocol by toning down the flesh-flashing for her performance before the Queen in Blackpool’s Opera House, there’s no such thing as subtlety in Lady Gaga’s world. In homage to Elizabeth I, the flamboyant singer kept it covered up with a scarlet gown but, as usual, there was a quirky twist (or five) to her regal attire, starting with an Elizabethan-inspired ruff, 20ft long cloak and enormous puff shoulders (all in PVC, we might add), which ensured the outfit stayed true to Gaga's signature eccentricity. Here’s hoping our Queen Liz managed to maintain her Poker Face... Miley Cyrus also chose a vibrant floor length number for the Royal Variety event but looked somewhat more demure thanks to the lady-like Grecian style freshened up by a wrap around leather belt. We approve highly.
"Lovely Bones" Premiere
Over in Hollywood, Rachel Weisz poured her lovely bones into a short and sweet Valentino frock decorated with Tiffany jewels for the LA premiere of her latest film. We’re loving that cool colour palette and her figure looks incredible thanks to the contouring provided by a nipped-in waist flaring out into ruffled layers, but those metallic heels are far too clunky for such a feminine frock. Meanwhile, Rachel’s Lovely Bones co-star Saoirse Ronan chose a slinky golden gown with ruched shoulders that lend a little definition to her romantic look but that silk-tablecloth-pattern means the up-and-coming starlet just misses the mark. Don't even get us started on those lace-up boots...
"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" Premiere
Eeeep! Still walking the red carpet during her promotional duties for The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, Lily Cole stole the spotlight with her dark and dramatic get-up that seems to have been inspired by her Oxford professors. Kitted out in a masculine pinstripe short suit layered over a white Zac Posen shirt, the model finished the, ehem, interesting look with matchy-matchy boots to flash an inch of thigh... well why not?! We're still undecided on whether this is sheer genius by John Paul Gaultier or just a serious fashion misstep... But back to the ever-fashionable, Olivia Palermo was at the New York premiere dressed in an ivory blouse + jeans + fringed boots combo topped off with a high collared navy jacket for a no-fuss party ensemble, accented by a colour-flashing clutch. City chic at its best!
